What happened in the last 10 minutes of Friends
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

NBC really pisses me off with these Super Sized Friends. Because I now live in Canada I have to use TiVo in manual mode. And, of course, I lost the last 10 minutes of friends.
The last thing I saw was Rachel's sister had just had Emma's ears pierced, Joey had written a hand written recommendation which the adoption agency liked (thinking it was written by a kid) and Feebie was considering proposing.
Can you fill me in on what happened after that!
Thanks.

See this thread (ignore the social commentary) and just download it and watch it. :)

In a nutshell, several overpaid actors said some stuff that might have been funny 4 years ago, but is just boring now. I'd wager that a significant portion of the attempted humor had to do with parenthood.
OK, sarcasm aside, I haven't watched it yet, although I will before I go to bed. If you really want to see it, I'd take dswallow's advice and just download it and watch it. Friends is readily available for download, usually within half an hour after it airs, and seeing the real thing will be much better than just being told what happened.

Oops, I just checked dswallow's link. Bad thread, way too many posts by people who that think tired acronyms are still humorous (assuming they ever were), and it still pointed to the wrong place to begin with. If you want a reliable place to download what you're looking for, you need to do a search on "Usenet".

All you need is in the very first post of that thread. And it's quite reliable.

Usenet is reliable. If it shows up, you can download it at a reasonable speed. BT is, in my experience, pretty flaky. You'll eventually get it, usually, but it's hard to tell wether the download will be lightning fast, or drag on for a week.
That's been my experience, anyway.
Plus, with BT, you're also uploading everything you download multiple times. This wouldn't be a problem, except with certain residential providers, even a slow upload destroys your download capability. As a general rule, I'd say that downloading a 1 meg file with BT requires me to upload just a shade over 2 meg. I wouldn't mind it so much if that uploading didn't kill my whole ability to function on the Internet.
And if you really want to be the first one to get it, IRC is the place to go. That's where the other copies usually originate from, but it does require some effort to learn to use it.
I'm not trying to knock you personally, but there really are better and more reliable ways to get this stuff. BT is a last resort.

Thanks, but given that I'm an attorney, I won't be illegally downloading TV shows ... can someone just give me a few sentences of what happened in the last ten minutes?

Mike finally asked Phoebe to marry him, at dinner.. she said yes.
Ross kinda freaked about the earrings, Rachel tried hiding it.
Rachel's sister started a business (think it was a baby grooming one...).. her best line was "I can't believe people don't like hearing that their baby is ugly"

Obviously you've not been playing with a BitTorrent client that lets you control the upload so that you don't saturate your available bandwidth.
As far as legality... well, it was broadcast over-the-air wasn't it? So you're not stealing... :) Seriously, you're not but trying to catch 10 minutes of a show you watched.

DirecTV can be legally subbed in Canada? Sweet, where can I find out countries that I can pick it up legally while on the road in my RV?

Possibly a cute pickup on the legality mention, but I suspect he's got a standalone TiVo and is using it with cable or Canadian satellite services. :)
Of course even TiVo is a US/UK-only product... :D Some original Series 1 standalones could work without a subscription, though, without hacking, so he could still be pretty quasi-legal, especially having bought it while in the US.
Of course in Canada, they get real protective, so there could be a law against bringing in some equipment bought elsewhere that's not intended to function in Canada, even if it does. ;)
But if you're a US subscriber and have it in your RV, you can legally continue using it while driving your US-registered RV in Canada.

OK, how do you make the link bring down the file? I don't need this now but I downloaded the app in case I do and want to test. When I click on a show link, all I get is symbols, no download. Hmmmm And, I can see no way to do it directly from the app.
Posted by: dswallow
Did you download the EXE version of the app which includes the installer? Then just run that and it installs everything; clicking on the .torrent links then will bring up the app. If you're not using IE, then I'm not sure there isn't something extra you might have to do to associate those files with the app. But I just installed that client and tested it and it's functioning (I had been using a different BitTorrent client before this).

Dang, lost track of the forum I was in and thought I was poking him a bit for his "I'm a lawyer..blah blah" bit while boosting a signal from the US. ;)
I have never used a SA, without guide data does it just become a dumb VCR with a HDD or would he be calling in to a US access number for guide info (for Canadian cable/TV?)

I believe it has to be running some older software in order to function as a dumb VCR; it was a "loophole" in the subscriber agreement, I think. I never really paid too much attention to SA issues, but it came up a lot when a new software update was coming out that eliminated that capability. It's probably in the FAQ somewhere.

Thanks Scott!
While DirecTV works in Canada, it can't be legally subbed here by Canadian residents.

I don't use Mozilla, but from what I've seen people reference here, you probably have to configure some association or mime type in order for Mozilla to be able to figure out what application is involved whereas IE follows Microsoft's practice of looking at the file extension, for the most part.
