Once Again Quality Loses Out

So ABC may not pick up Karen Sisco for a full season. Meanwhile, it renews dreck like 10-8 and Threat Matrix. (OK, I like Threat Matrix, but I know lots of folks here don't.)

Could it be that the viewing public really doesn't want well-written dramatic series with subtle multi-faceted characterizations? All the good shows keep failing.

In a better world, Karen Sisco would be moved to 8 p.m. Sundays and 10-8 would be cannon fodder for the Law & Order juggernaut. Phooey.

Just curious, but have you seen 10-8? I really like it! I have not seen Karen Sisco, so I don't have any comment about it except that it really does suck when shows you really like aren't given the chance they need to succeed.

Hey! I happen to like 10-8. :)
It's not NYPD Blue or anything but is a nice, little cop show.

I like both Karen Sisco and 10-8. Threat Matrix is dreck.

10-8 is just "CHiPs, 2003"

H'mm, I seem to have opened a can o' worms here. I watched one episode of 10-8 and hated it. While I watch Threat Matrix, I wouldn't miss it for more than 30 seconds if it was cancelled. But neither of them are anywhere close to as good as Karen Sisco. IMHO. If you like either show, enjoy. You've got them until the end of the season.

NBC renewed Whoopi and Happy Family. Is anyone happy about that?

Graymalkin, I'm with you. I watched a couple episodes of 10-8 and thought it was complete and utter garbage. However, I thought Karen Sisco wasn't that great.

I think the viewing public doesn't care about quality shows anymore. At least that could be said for ABC, and probably FOX as well.

I have no interest in 10-8 and there are other shows I'd be happier if they were doing better than Karen Sisco. (e.g. Miss Match) Having said that, I've watched all of the episodes and the only real reason to watch is Carla Gugino.

Doh, that reminds me that I don't have ABC. When I moved Tivo didn't pick up my local affiliate and I keep forgetting to contact them about it. Remind me to do that when I get home so i can check these shows out. :)

I read that Karen Sisco killed off The Brothers of Poland. I watch it a week or two later, but I still think it's good enough to have around when there isn't anything else going on. I get up at 4:30AM so any late show I must TiVo, and this is one I do. I don't find many shows worth SPing. There is such garbage anymore.

"Karen Sisco" is a little too adult for 8:00. But I think it'd be very nice if ABC stopped listening to David E. Kelley's whining and moved "The Practice" elsewhere to make room for "Karen Sisco" at 10:00 Sunday.

I've loved Karen Sisco. I'll be really mad if it doesn't get picked up.

10-8 has been OK for me. I've recorded all the eps but don't get in a hurry to watch them.

I've recorded all the episodes of Threat Matrix but haven't gotten around to watching one yet.

10-8 doesn't have enough cheese......

Karen Sisco has been great. And it's different than a lot of things on TV. It's sexy and has a lot of style.

And watching Carla in those tight blouses every week helps too.

I really like Sisco and my hope is that ABC realizes it has worse problems on its schedule than having a critically praised show that is underperforming. That same description has applied to Alias its entire run, and ABC has stuck with it for three seasons (including the current one) so far. I have a similar hope for Miss Match over on NBC. These are easily two of the best new shows of the season. They deserve a season's worth of chance, at least.

Using the 10-8 characters to intro Monday Night Football recently was priceless. I kinda enjoy it...a la Adam 12. ;)

OTOH, Threat Matrix (even if it does star a local fellow) is just a little too PC for me...especially when they contrive ways to work the deaf young woman into the action. That just seems to be taking "accommodation" to an all new level.

I think part of the problem is the promotion for the show. If it weren't for this forum I would never have heard about it. The Promo's that I did see don't do it justice and as soon as I saw it was tied to Danny DeVito it also dropped a notch on the credibility ladder for me (not been a fan of most of what Danny has done, sorry...). The promos made it look like some sort of a bad 60's, Matt Helmy kind of thing... Didn't exactly grab my Peanut to set up an SP, especially since....

It also seemed to get a late start compared to other premieres. I could be wrong, but I didn't even notice it until after I'd lost interest in looking for new shows this year. Or should I say looking for GOOD new shows this year. As for 10-8? Feh. That whole rookie hazing crap is so "been done to death". Talk about a predictable formula... I might give it more of chance now that I see so many of you like it, but it didn't exactly make a good impression on me and the rest of the eps are still sitting on my hard drive...

Oh... That being said, I think it's a fresh new show and it was certainly witty and good enough to warrant another watch. That's saying alot this season... Most of my other new shows are piling up at the bottom of my Now Playing list due to lack of interest by anyone in the house...
