I have a DTiVo, so I haven't been following anything about the current stand alone models. I want to get one for my sister for her birthday, but what else is there other than the two choices on TiVo.com? The only thing I know is a DVD writer is not necessary. I just want a stand alone with at least 40 hrs. and at the lowest possible price. Is there any reason to shop outside of TiVo.com?

I just got back from Best Buy. I thought the best deal for a gift would be the Toshiba with the DVD player and TiVo Basic. They are selling it for $350 after the $50 rebate. 80 hours, Tivo Basic, no subscription to pay for.

If I am not mistaken the $50 rebate requires that the user subscribe to the Tivo service.
