Postin URLs for beginners

When a beginner attempts to post an URL, they get:
quote:
You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 5 posts or more.
Then if the "Back" button or key is used, they are vulnerable to losing everything they have written. In addition to this, in my first post, the URL I was posting was not another site; it was a link to a thread in these forums.

It would really help to warn new members of this restriction before it is encountered. One way to do that is in the signup process, but that might not help if the new person does not read it. An ideal solution would be to hook into the code that is executed when the "http://" button is pushed to prevent a new member from using it, or at least warning them of the restriction.

I realize that there is little that the vBull software can do to prevent loss of data from a text box when a back button or key is used, but if anything can be done to help prevent that, then that sure would be nice.

Your last sentence is correct, it is not something that can be done. The reason for the restrection is spammers that come to the site to post links with multi accounts. It is not mentooned for usually it is not an issue for most "new" posters do not post links but ask a question.

Sorry for your data loss.

I've learned the hard way to copy the text in the posting box before I hit 'PREVIEW' or 'SUBMIT' - especially when I've spent a long time composing a message. You can do this by clicking into the text box and hitting <CTRL>-A and then <CTRL>-C. Now you've got the text 'saved' should you run into a problem.

I do that every time, also. There are just too many things that can happen after pressing Preview or Submit, and I've saved myself much aggravation by copying the text first.
