New TivoNet - works fine except...

I installed the TivoNet card and I have TivoWeb, telnet, etc working just fine. However, my daily call fails consistently - Failed, Call Interrupted (after a few minutes). The test call works fine every time. If I switch back over to the modem, the daily call completes OK, so it's something about the network setup, though again the Tivoweb and telnet work fine. Where should I look next? I'm using a Sprint Broadband connection (fixed IP out, SMC Barricade router with DHCP enabled, forced IP assignment of the Tivo based on MAC address so it comes up with the same IP address every time). For the short term I can leave it on the modem, but I'd like to get the TivoNet call to work. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

I would like to know if anyone can answer the above question??? My problem is a little different I fail on the test call and the daily call every time with the modem and using ,#401. I have series 1 hdr312 that i can telnet, ftp, use tystudio, and use tivoweb. I have a dlink router with dhcp enabled the mac address of my turbonet is fixed so dhcp assigns same ip address everytime. I can ping any PC on my side of the router. I am also connected to my neighbors house with cat 5e cable and I get ping denied from his router. I can not ping any of his PC's.

Telnet into your tivo and use the route command to check that your default route points to the ip address of your router. If the default route isn't set, you can temporarily add it with the following command:
route add default gw <your routers ip>
Then you can use the following command to see if you are getting out to the internet from your tivo:
/bin/ntpdate -b 204.176.49.10 204.176.49.11
If this works, you'll need to put the above route command in one of your startup files (/etc/rc.d/rc.net works well) so that it is executed when your TiVo is restarted.
There are other threads about this, you might try searching for them if this doesn't work for you.

I thought that I might be the only one... Now I see that there are at least two of us. I did try to seach the other posts, tried the two(?) different Tivo host servers for the download info, and both servers fail for me. Doing a traceroute (I'm typing this from memory as I'm at work now) showed that the packets where having trouble being routed somewhere internal to the network (e.g. not on my network - I was getting out of my network to the Internet from the Tivo just fine). Even the traceroute would timeout occasionally - this seems odd, since traceroute doesn't do much more than DNS lookups, so should be somewhat akin to ping timing. I tried the Tivo support group and got the standard "that's not supported on Series 1 Tivo BS", and nothing else helpful. I even sent a nice reply to that email, explaining that I "understood" that it wasn't "officially" supported on the Series 1 Tivo, but that a lot of users were set up this way and (at the time) it seemd that a number of users were having trouble with network downloads, possibly indicating that the network download part of the Tivo network was having trouble. Not respose at all from the Tivo support group.
I'll try what this thread suggests this evening (it's been a while since I've tried the network download - I just switched back to modem and use TIvoNet for TivoWeb - What a GREAT program!:D ). I'll post again and let you know what I find.

I fixed my problem.. About one week ago I had the TiVo reboot in the middle of watching a movie. That is when the daily calls on the phone stopped working. I tried to switch to the network update but it would not work. Everything would work, ping to an outside site, telnet, tivoweb, ftp and tystudio. I decided to reinstall a virgin image and while I had the drives out of the machine i had themed checked by the local computer store. The A-drive failed the Seagate extended test. It did pass the short test. When I say everything i mean no video problems, no other reboots, I could change season passes, pick shows to record just about everything I can mention on this site worked great.
I replaced the drive and did the identical install that I had made from the backup, when I first set the twin 120 drives up two months ago. I now get the daily updates over the network. two updates as of the time of this message

OK, so I have mine working now too... Thanks! I swear that I had that gateway in the route table at one point, but it wasn't in there when I went back to test it with the ntpdate command (which failed miserably). Added it to the route table, and the ntpdate command seemed to work, so I switched over to the network connect and forced a daily call - it worked (actually, it's still working on it as I type, but the download has happened, it's just loading the data into the db). Thanks again for all the help!
