At http://www.currys.co.uk they are doing a Techwood 42" Plasma TV for £1999.99 - 10% 2 day web special.

Has anyone ever heard of this brand?

I can find some reference to a french made DVD player but not their TV's

Is this a sign that mainstream plasma TV's will also be availble for under £2K?

I also understand they have a special on for freeview boxes at £39.99.

Come on, it's only £1,829.09 including delivery....

Someone's got to take the plunge and order one :)

What I can't believe is that you don't already *have* a 42" plasma screen Automan.

£1.8K is tempting though. However, almost talked the missus into a £6K Sony when the old TV breaks. Just gotta break the exisiting TV without it being obvious, of course the fact that the plasma will have to be pre-ordered for delivery on the day the TV breaks *may* give it away though :)

Was seriously thinking about it but then noticed the delivery.
Delivery charge for Plasma and TFT TV's with a screen size larger than 30" is £29.95 (applies to web and credit/debit orderline purchases only).
Kinda put me off.

Personally I would say that ?30 is more than reasonable for delivery, especially given the nature of the item. But hey I live on the third floor of a building with a *very* winding staircase and love the look on a drivers face when they realise where I live :D But to be fair I do *always* tell the sending company the situation before arranging delivery.

Hey we were only discussing in the UK forum that ?15-20 is reasonable for delivering a TiVo ( at 8Kg ) with insurance, so put into that context it's not too bad.

I was at our Reading offices today and one of my colleagues highly reccomends the Hitachi plasma TV.

I also called in at the Reading Dixons - No Techwood devices to be seen.

I saw the Hitachi on display at Sound And Vision in Bolton during the week - fed with a component input from TOY STORY and LORD OF THE RINGS it looked stunning - first time I have seen a plasma in a few years and things have moved on!!!

They had a Hitachi, Panasonic and Phillips screen hooked up, all looked a bit so so on the S input, in fact the Phillips looked s**t on all inputs, but I preferred the Hitachi over the Panasonic, despite the latter being a "better" spec screen. Personal preference I guess..........

Apparently Techwood Plasmas are rebadged Samsung sets.

I have actuallt seen one in Dixons, Reading.
Unit on fed by UHF aerial so could not judge picture quality.
It's box has four scart inputs but does not state if any are RGB!
