I know many of you are huge fans of Homicide: Life on the Streets. On November 16 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., CourtTV is airing a five hour marathon of Homicide. CourtTV is showing Tom Fontana's 5 favorite episodes. Fontana is Homicide's creator.

The link to the court TV description is below:

Kewl!
'Course, with the DVDs out, it's less critical to my existence, but cool nonetheless.

Thanks for the heads up!

I checked the link, and those are GREAT episodes. "The Subway" may be Vincent D'Onofrio's finest hour. And Gary Basaraba ("Boomtown") really shines in "Dolls Eyes." Those two may be the most powerful hours of network TV I have ever seen, and I'm not given to exaggeration.

I highly recommend this marathon to anyone looking for drama better than anything currently on TV.

I want to watch it but hate to see a few episodes of a great show only to never see any more. Can someone who has never seen Homicide watch these episodes without being lost?

Rent the DVDs
Rent the DVDs
RENT THE DVDs! If you possibly can. Hell, buy 'em then put 'em up on eBay when you're done, if you don't love them.

You won't be sorry.

That's one heck of a recommendation. :) How many seasons were there and how many are on DVD.

I love Oz and The Wire so I'm sure Homicide will be right up my alley.

Well, if you watch the marathon, I'd bet you'll wind up watching the rest on DVD. This show was THAT good.

The two episodes I mentioned, "The Subway" and "Doll's Eyes" are standalone and VERY emotional. But you won't get lost. Two of the episodes are the pilot two-parter.

I think there were seven total seasons? I saw season 3 at Best Buy last week in New Releases.

Second thing first ... yup, right up your alley. Or if you're in Balmer, on your stoop, hon.

Three seasons are on DVD so far, in two sets (first two in one set, because only 13 eps total for first two years).

Full episode list here . Follow the link to Episodes.

AND it says here that all 7 seasons will be released on DVD by the end of 2005! :) :D

There's a couple of cast changes later on so the series quality tails off a bit, but that still makes it better than most TV even at the end.

If you love Oz and The Wire, run - don't walk! - to get the DVDs. You will love Homicide!

What they all said -- most especially if you like those other series.

I hadn't watched a full episode of Homicide in YEARS, and even then, I think I only watched one. I had forgotten how well done this show was.

And I LOVED Oz and I was having Oz flashbacks...unfortunately I only caught the last episode-The Subway-yesterday. That show was RIVETING.

And may I say, Vincent D'onofrio is doing quite well on Law and Order CI, y'know, for having been cut in half. :)

Odd piece of trivia I noticed about D'onofrio....apparently he had his teeth straightened between that episode of Homicide and CI. His teeth are really crooked-in a way I don't think caps could cover-in this episode.

That hole he blew in his head in Full Metal Jacket healed up real nice, too. :p

And when Tommy Lee Jones blew him up from the inside in Men in Black...he's recovered from that too!

ClutchBrake, did you watch/Tivo? If so, what did you think?

Tommy Lee Jones? Full Metal Jacket? Whaaaa?
What is your major malfunction, son? Are you talking about R. Lee Ermey?

Oh, just checked imdb. You mean Men In Black, right?

Marco, edited to fix it. Thanks :)

I've watched two so far but haven't been overly impressed. The ones I watched were "Gone for Goode" and "Three Men and Adena".

It seems a little claustrophobic compared to some of the other shows. The resolution to cases without seeing the happenings was a little disappointing.

I'm going to watch the other three next week.
