mfsbackup failed - help?

I was hoping someone could help me with this problem. I have an old 2 drive direct tivo. Drive A is 30mb, B is 15. It has been having sporadic HD problems where very infrequently it won't boot up. Unplug/plug in AC to fix it. Following the hinsdale instructions I set up my computer as follows:
hda 40 mb c: drive (windows), primary master (CS enabled)
hdb quantum 15 mb (tivo b), primary slave (no jumper)
hdc CD ROM, secondary master (CS enabled)
hdd quantum 30 mb (tivo a), secondary slave (no jumper)
After running:
mfsbackup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdd /dev/hdb
it reports the source, backup, and upgraded to sizes as normal (factory married), and when it gets to about 20% done I get the Backup failed, tivo.bak: Success message. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks,

How are you mounting your C: drive?
If you do ls /mnt/dos do you see the files in your C: drive listed?
If you do df, what does that say about /mnt/dos?

I just typed in the following (per the instructions):
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
I replaced all of the drives to verify tivo was still ok, so I can't try anything tonight, but I'll take all suggestions and try them out tomorrow.

My guess is that hda1 is not your C: drive. Some brands - Compaq, Dell, etc - have a hidden partition and the C: drive will actually be hda2 or hda5

Yes, this is a new Dell. I just checked sysinfo and it says that Disk 0 partition 0 is 32mb, and disk 0 partition 1 is 37gb. I assume that this is why I don't see tivo.bak on C: So do I just change the command syntax from hda1 to hda2? Any way to verify this? And how do I get rid of tivo.bak on the other partition?
Thanks,
Mike

If you mount hda1 again you can do "rm /mnt/dos/tivo.bak" to remove the old file (not sure that's important). Then umount /mnt and mount /dev/hda2 as you correctly inferred.
You'll see the partition table for the A drive during the boot-up. If you try to mount the wrong partition mount will just burp at you. If it's not hda2 it'll be hda5.

I tried again today, and the change to hda2 worked great. Then I ran into the NTFS r/o issue, but luckily I had an available fat32 drive that I used. After that, smooth sailing - from 35 to 126 hours, but best of all, no more worries about the hard drive crashing. Thanks a lot for all the help!
