I just received a reconditioned hdvr2 via warantee and wish to upgrade with a new WD 120g drive. I can live without transferring season pass info or any programming I have recorded.

Question, can I just drop the new drive in and let the system start form scratch or do I need to go through the steps of copying data from drive in the new unit. I have yet to start the new unit up yet.

Thanks,

John

All the software is on the hard drive, just like a PC, so the drive does need to be prepared first. This is only time consuming if you want to keep your recordings.

All you need to do is make a compressed backup from your A drive and then restore that to the new drive. Takes half an hour or so once you've got the TiVo and PC apart.

It's all covered in the Hinsdale How-to linked above.

Thanks for the quick reply,

I was hoping to just drop it in but the process does not seem to be that difficult. The only issue I have now is that, from what I am reading in this forum, this drive is going to be a little noisy.
