3 episodes left..........
My only comment is that I get the feeling this season is going to end with as many questions/mysteries unsolved as there are now. Maybe somewhat different questions, but I don't believe (disappointingly) there will be too many answers over the next three weeks.

The problem is, this is supposed to be a one-shot deal. This is a mini-series, not a series.

Nope. There will be a second season.

Coolness. Never so glad to be wrong.

I'm enjoying the show, but I hope it takes us somewhere substantial this season and doesn't fall into the Twin Peaks trap in season two.

Yes, that's my big fear. So far, they've done an excellent job of slowly unfolding things, but if it goes into stasis, that would be very sad. (Twin Peaks is a good example; perhaps a better one is Miami Vice. The original intent is that the leads would rotate over time; they intended to have the whole "Sonny goes bad" thing that was used at the first series finale to be the end of season 2 or so, and then Don Johnson would be a recurring villain, with a couple of new cops as the leads. And the Crockett character was fascinating at first, walking the edge between good and eveil and sometime shaving trouble keeping his balance. But Johnson became a superstar, so they decided they had to keep him as a lead, and his character stopped developing and went into stasis. As a result, he became less and less edgy over time, and ultimately was just anothet TV cop.
(Then, ironically, they knew the show was going to end, so they decided to do the Sonny Goes Bad thing; he became a mob hit man, the cops chased him through the rest of the year, and in the end Sonny won, and rode off into the sunset in his Cigarette boat to the Bahamas to enjoy a happy evil retirement. Even more ironically, the show was then renewed, so they had to come up with an exceptionally lame way to bring Evil Sonny back into the fold.
(Which reminded me at the time of Magnum PI, another show that was cancelled. They ended it with a magnificant episode in which Magnum was actually killed...and then renewed the show, so suddenly he wasn't REALLY dead, he was just ALMOST dead. I wonder if the experience of Magnum and Miami Vice is why so few cancelled shows are willing to truly END things!)
But I digress... :D

What happened to Gecko the snake man? I remember last seeing him when Dora Mae died. Did he leave the carnival and I just forgot?
I really enjoyed his character, even though it didn't contribute much to the story.

He's still there, he just hasn't been the focus of anything.

He was in the preview for next week.

To me it looks like there's going to be a power struggle between Samson and Lodz to run the Carnivale. Samson was warning Ben to act quickly and take sides, and even warned Ben that Lodz was not a good man. Lodz suddenly seems to be enjoying his quality time with Management, so something's brewing. One storyline to end the season could see Lodz take over the Carnivale and next season revolve around Sampson trying to return to his "boss" position.
I'm really, really, reallly (ok, REALLY!) enjoying the drawn out mystery and hope the suspense and dialog quality stays at its current levels.
Different topic: I love how last week's tease with Justin asking for pencil and paper came to fruition this week. Last week he tested his powers and had the doctor write a sentence about Justin breaking a man's neck, and this week that evolved into the doctor writing Justin's entire book!
Posted by: doconner
Was it ever explained what Justin's book is? I got that he controlled the doctor into writing something for him, but I'm not exactly sure of the relevance or purpose of that something.
Any guesses on the 'meaning' of Justin being alone in the gym, until the camera panned around and it was full of other psych patients?

I reallked this week's episode. I feel like the story lines have turned a corner and are beginning to converge. Nice!
I am so curious how they will conclude this season...
Interesting that Sophie is now showing some capability to see into the future & past, like her mother, but all on her own. She seemed pretty disturbed by something...
Did Justin actually write the book...or did the doctor PEN the book for Justin, under *mental instruction* from Justin??

When did Sofie see into the future or past by herself? Are you talking about the rape scene? Sophie didn't see that by herself. Her mother seems to be slowly losing her mind and in turn losing the ability to control what thoughts she projects to Sofie. That's how I took it anyways.
I believe the doctor wrote the book under control of Justin.

Wrote him a book, then let him leave. Not a bad stay, minus the ice bath and electro shock he received upon arrival.

Yeah the icebath and electroshock were the 30's equivalent of a spa visit :D

Correct, as pedicures were not invented until the 1950's.
