24 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm ** SPOILERS **

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Decided to start a Spoiler Aware thread rather than bother with the tags. I didn't know how to change the thread name on the other discussion... sorry!

It was an "okay" episode tonight. Random thoughts:

I ilked the bait and switch with the bag of coke. They're doing a really good job of spelling out how fast the virus incubates and how lethal it is.

Jack shooting up (or at least trying to) in the mid afternoon traffic of LA... LOL!

The director of CTU going to the mall to apprehend the kid? It's like the Captain of the Enterprise going away on a dangerous away mission. It's not done. :)

Thought the guy who played the kid carrier's dad did a great job. I've seen him in other stuff, but I can't remember where.

The president's storyline is lame lame lame. Can't they find something better, more threatening than a 15 year old SEC violation that his girlfriend (not even his wife) may or may not have been involved in? Twelve years before she even knew the President? Let 'em talk. Who cares? He can always dump her to save face. I'd be more incensed about the bribe than some old scandal the President had absolutely nothing to do with.

So now that Kim is on the inside at CTU, they have Faux Kim on the outside (kid carrier's girlfriend) to be in peril. Those writers just can't resist the hot blonde in distress.

Maybe he's in training to be the new Jack Bauer. Who, if you recall from Season 1, would on occasion venture into the field while running CTU... :D

Yeah, Palmer seems to be this year's Kim. "Hmmm. How can we get him into the storyline?" I supposed next he'll be kidnapped...

The REALLY strange thing is that the public doesn't know that she's his girlfriend. So what's the guy going to do in the debate? "Mr. President, isn't it true that your physician had an SEC violation 15 years ago?" In the real world, the other side's dirty tricks department would have been laying the groundwork for the revelation by weeks of carefully controlled leaks setting up a situation where such a revelation might do actual damage.

The only thing I can think of is that the real problem is something other than the SEC violation. The other Palmer DID say something about her not being able to stand up to the kind of scrutiny she would be facing once she hit the news...

My thought is it's all a set up to get them to bribe the guy, then expose the bribe and the coverup, making it 20 times worse than it is right now.

ditto. Surely the obvious won't be true in the end.

Well now Jacks doctor friend now knows he is using. How long can he go before really going through withdrawal. Cant he go through some kind of rapid detox to get that crap out of his system.

It was kind of funny seeing him trying to shoot up right on the street and then he rest of the CTU vans came rolling up.

That could be the running gag for the rest of the season! He keeps going around looking for a quiet spot to shoot up.

Tom

Now that she does know, why doesn't he get her to prescribe him some methadone. At least that would help with the shakes and what not. Rapid detox wouldn't work, it would incapacitate him for at least 24 hours, which wouldn't be much of a show.

It already is not much of a show. It is dragging. You cannot drag in a show like this.

I can't wait to see this next week:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Chase roughing up Salazar in prison...looks intense.

Tony getting shot! Didn't see that one coming.... I guess Chase was right: Tony isn't field ops!

Posted by: scottjf8

Thanks for spoiler tagging the next week part, grecorj.... I'm one of those weirdoes that doesn't watch previews....

Maybe not, but he did help Teri out at the Bauer house in S1 (I can't recall if he took out on the Drazen assassins or not- but I think he did). Of course, that was before he ascended to Director.

Posted by: pmyers

This "Mole" at CTU still is bugging me, with his "secret lair" and all.

I too think that the bribe is just a setup to get David into even more trouble.

The idea that the Director of Intel at CTU would go onsite to the mall is just silly, especially since he only got there minutes before Jack did and he really didn't even do anything execpt your classic "cover all the exits" line.

Previously on 24

President brother gives inside information about the upcoming debate to the pres. Claims it just "fell off the truck". Pres doesn’t want it, says he can overcome any obstacle thrown at him (as long as they don’t find out about his long private weekends on the Michael Jackson ranch).

The following events happen in real time…

CTU Batman comes out of the bat-cave to find that CTU is onto his virus plan. He runs back into the bat-cave and calls Mexico for advice.

Jack is still trying to kick his glue sniffing habit and almost falls off the wagon. New blond tagalong finds empty spay paint can on floor of Kiefer’s car, smells paint fumes, and calls him on the addictions. He admits to being a big-time pusher but he is trying to quit. (You don’t happen to have any weed on you, do you?)

Special agent Boy Toy throws a temper tantrum because Jack won’t let him play the game since he is dating Kim (She still hasn’t gotten wet or ripped any of her clothes… are we sure this is 24?)

Kocaine Kyle tries to outwit his dad by sneaking his massive bag of coke/virus out of the house well hidden in a gym bag. I don’t understand how his father thought to look in there for it. Oh no, cops arrive, flush the virus into the L.A. sewer system. (Ha-ha, fooled you, it wasn’t really virus, just some smelly gym socks ground up to look like coke. Hmmm, that may be infections after all).

Ends up that Kocaine Kyle is the virus carrier. He decides to hide out at the mall. Asks trailer trash girlfriend for 20 large (you daddy keeps that kind of money lying around in the trailer, doesn’t he? I know you are rich because you have a double wide, pour people can’t afford nice things like that. Can they?)

Tony ends up having to do the field work because Boy Toy is stuck back at CTU driving a desk. He chases Kocaine Kyle down at the mall and does some target practice while he is there. (If he did a bit more field work he would know that target practice is usually accomplished on the other side of the gun).

Myself also. The spoiler-tag for next-week's preview is very much appreciated.

The debacle last season on this board where the moderator said "let's vote to see if next week's previews should be spoiler-protected or not and we'll go with the majority", the vote was overwhelming pro-"previews must be spoiler-tagged" and then she effectively said "Ah screw it -- I'm doing it my way anyway" was arrogant and unmannerly.

So, Thank You Very Much to all folks who are eager to discuss in minutae this week's episode, speculate freely and wildly on what might happen next, but spoiler-tag anything actually appearing in the next week's previews. The moment of your time to spoiler-tag preview information allows members of all persuasions to enjoy the discussions in this particular forum.

Actually, what she said was, "This isn't working." And it wasn't.

Posted by: ufo4sale

Even if you did see the previews for next week it didn't really give anything away. I would HATE IT if they showed Tony walking around like everything was OK. At least they didn't give that away next week.

Posted by: TampaThunder

Is there anybody else who was bothered by the way they broke into Singer's house? I mean, c'mon! Sawing through the front door?? Is that the only way they could give the mom fair warning enough so she would run to the bathroom and flush the "virus" down the toilet? It would have been better if their neighbor had called and said, "Hey what's with all the cops and people in space suits outside your door?". Or maybe they could have just knocked. :) I don't know how many writers they have on this show but there sure is a wide variance of quality from top to bottom.

... And the vote was far from overwhelmingly.... there were very passionate opinions on either side, and over 40 votes for each side.... the difference (if I recall) was something like 15 votes asking for no untagged spoilers -- including preview information -- versus those that said anything about the show was fair game.

Either way, it definitely wasn't working, and the mods made the decisions that they believed was best for all involved.

Griping about it now is just sour grapes.

yeah...I had this same conversation with a friend yesterday. Of all the cop shows I've seen, I've never seen them chainsaw through the front door. It looked like one good kick could have caved that door in.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

Yeah, the cops have those portable battering rams that open a door instantly. Which is useful on a drug raid (which this was), where you can expect armed resistance...

Posted by: GoodSpike

A riddle: What's the difference between 24 and The Sopranos?

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
It only took 24 three seasons to become boring.

Posted by: uncdrew

I guess stopping at the leasing office to get the key to the door would have taken too long.

Now answer me this: Did the bad guy try to shoot the kid or Tony? I wasn't clear on what his intent was.

Posted by: mooseAndSquirrel

I would think Tony. They want to keep the virus threat going, so they need Kato to be alive and free. How they're going to get him out of the mall surrounded by cops will be an interesting exercise in the suspension of disbelief.

Speaking as a landlord who has had a drug raid in his building (one I knew about in advance and cooperated in), they will NEVER use the key. Their attitude (not entirely unreasonably) is that the two seconds it takes for them to open the door with the key is the same two seconds it takes the drug dealers inside to get out their guns and aim them at the door. That's why they use the battering rams--and that's why the "sawing through the door" thing was so ridiculous. It was the worst of both worlds: It takes a long time to get through the door, but there is no doubt whatsoever what is happening (as opposed to the key option, where there is at least the POSSIBILITY that it's one of the drug dealers coming home).

Posted by: LlamaLarry

I too was bothered by the chainsaw, but even more so by their unwillingness to grab up Kyle. Send in the rent-a-cops, send in Tony, just send in *someone* to tackle him and hold him down til Jack can save the day. Where were the folks that rode in with Tony or anyone backing him up, why was Jack the first person to render aid to him?

Add me to the list of folks betting that setting up a bribe to burn Palmer on is the intent of the whole perjury leak.

KIm bugs the hell out of me, especially in this "all Grow'd Up" version. If she was going to be dumb at least she could be decorative.

Posted by: pmyers

seriously though, my wife is ready to bail on this show and she loved the first 2 seasons. I'm still on the fence myself but I'll give it more of a chance than she will.

Posted by: RickStrobel

Well, at least we all know what Al Gore is up to now -- he's the top dog on the mall's security team :p

Posted by: Steveknj

This show is getting more unbelievable than a 21st Century James Bond movie!! I used to look forward to watching the show and was on the edge of my seat until the next episode. It has become all eye candy and unbelievable plot twists!! I just don't buy it. I will give it a couple of more weeks and then decide whether it's worth it to keep watching.

If you want to watch a more realistic "spy" show with just as much edge of your seat action, watch MI-5 on A&E. They just finished the 2nd season cliffhanger, but I'll bet they rerun the first two seasons.

Posted by: MalachiNY

I think though the show is slow right now but it will get better ... I wont give it up until the very end ... if it sucked in its entirety then bye-bye! I dont think it will though!!!

A show thats starts in December that looks good (as far as previews) is LINE OF FIRE on ABC ... Which, ironically, has Leslie Hope in it ... Jack Bauers wife in Season 1!

Might wanna check it out!

Posted by: uncdrew

Fine point about eye-candy. The scientists are all hotties. I know there must be some gorgeous female scientists out there...

Posted by: scottjf8

I happened to catch a minute of CSI last night (don't watch it, but it was buffered after Survivor) and I saw George Mason on it!

Maybe they were afraid that a splintered door would be a puncture hazard for their environment suits in a potentially biohazardous environment.

Wow... reaching there, huh?

Posted by: HTH

Yeah, they should have something that cuts through faster than a chainsaw.

Or they could have gone with product placement and had the Kool-Aid man bust through a wall for them. Oh yeaaah!

I'm wondering about that. When I saw the show it seemed a little strange but I didn't think much about it until now. There must have been some reason the writers used that. From a viewer's standpoint it would have been just as exciting if they had used a battering ram, but if they do the door could bounce back and tear the suits.

Did the writers just invent this idea on their own? Probably, but maybe not

Posted by: uncdrew

Chainsaws create lots of splinters
