Farscape Lives! (Maybe...)
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

From DarkHorizons.com:
The cancelled but highly acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel series which had its plug pulled earlier this year may be making a comeback. Last week an insider sent along this rumour: "Farscape is back in production - the series is to be wrapped up in 4-6 new episodes with the usual crew, cast and producers. The props and sets are being dusted off and are being assembled in preparation for filming in Sydney. The new mini-season will complete the story arc and bring closure". An interesting story and a solid source but still it sounded almost like wishful thinking and as there still hasn't been any official announcement about it I held off. After all, you would've thought Sci-Fi would have shouted it from the rooftops that its coming back to appease the ravenous fans of the show (incl. me). Then some people I know connected with the show started mentioning it's coming back and its confirmed that the Sydney production office is open again. I placed three separate calls to them on Tuesday to confirm/deny the rumours and all three calls were not only summarily cut off at their end but the secretary hurled nasty insults (courtesy is a dying art) - I've never had problems with these guys before so best guess would be they've been advised not to speak to press at all (which would explain the lack of coverage locally). That would also explain that when I got in contact with a US publicity rep for Sci-Fi, they said they couldn't comment on it at this time but will be releasing details when they're available soon. Something IS stirring, I guess we'll have to wait to find out what exactly.

So maybe all those letters I sent paid off. :D

that would so great. But like all things I'll believe it when I see it.

Details may be released as soon as tomorrow...

Hey 'Scapers - this is the news you've been waiting for! The Jim Henson Company is holding a press conference Thursday to "announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue Farscape." Among those participating in the media pow-wow: Series creator Rockne S. O'Bannon and exec producers Brian Henson and David Kemper. They better not be unveiling the 2003 Farscape Christmas ornament.
Posted by: rickertk
On a related note: SciFi currently plans (at least according to their web-posted schedule) to resume showing Season 4 in December.

Yay! Woo-hoo!
Now if we could only get Skiffy to PLEASE stop overlaying my precious Aeryn with those irritating pop-up animations for Scare Tactics, Tremors, and whatever crappy movie they're showing this week.
Posted by: drew2k
This is great news! I can't believe the sets are still available after all this time - they're usually the first things to go.
Since it appears to be a "wrap-up" to the series, I hope they can bring back Jool, and contrive some plot device so that Zhaan and Crais can make appearances, either in flashbacks or visions, or whatever.
Gonna go update my wishlists!

Looks like the Henson family regaining control of the company last year is going to pay off!
If I recall correctly, a German company had purchased the company years ago, but sold it back last year.

Wow, now I'm getting excited. This is surreal.
Posted by: cheerdude
Hold the excitement.... at least, for maybe a day or two...
Reports are that Henson has cancelled the Press Conference for tomorrow. No word on when/if it will be rescheduled.
There is a major sci-fi convention this weekend (San Diego?) and there has been persistant rumors that an announcement would be made there.

I knew I shouldn't get excited. :(

Henson Press Conference?
Hello, you may have seen the reports of a possible Farscape related press conference set for tomorrow, at TVGuide.com, Dark Horizons or Cinescape. The word from Henson as of 2:30 pm pacific time, is that any press conference has been postponed indefinitely and that they have no further information on the situation.
Still, this is the most promising Farscape news I've heard since the cancellation.

I'd subscribe to Showtime (or whoever) just to get Farscape.

I am trying really really hard to supress my excitement, but that is proving more difficult than I imagined. I would (guardedly) start watching SciFi again if they gave us even a 4 hour mini (though I'd prefer 6-8).
Please, please, please let this come true.
Edit: Oh BTW, thanks for the heads up Rob.
Posted by: mitchb2
Oh, this would be amazing. I loved that show so much. Even if they just gave us a 2-hour movie to wrap it up, I would be thrilled.
I have many fond memories of watching Farscape with my two boys.

Update from TV Guide...
That Farscape press conference we told you about yesterday, during which producers were going to "announce an exciting new development in the campaign to continue" the franchise, has been postponed, a rep for the Jim Henson Company confirms. But never fear, 'Scapers. Sources tell me the media event will be rescheduled for sometime next week. (And trust me, it'll be well worth the wait.)
Dang it .... I need to know NOW

Yeah, I know about that. It's certainly better than nothing, but a two-hour movie just isn't the same as my weekly fix. <Still bitter at Fox  >

IGN claims to have confirmation that Farscape is set to film new episodes as a mini-series. There is a related story on Slashdot
Posted by: drew2k
I could see Henson and Co. approaching TNT, former home of Babylon 5 and Crusade, about airing the mini-series.

The Farscape sets were torn down after negotiations fell through for the second time, but they were old and showing wear and due to be replaced anyway. The crew took detailed photos of them and there shouldn't be any problem recreating them.
Barring catastrophe, there should be official word on what's going down early next week.

Heck, I'd watch it on PAX, as long as they didn't get "creatively involved." I guess I should always remember to use the smiley. :)

Not much information in either of the two above links, but I am taking heart that somewhere the information is noted. As one of the articles states, I have guarded optimism.
Posted by: cheerdude
Not offical, but per AICN...
It will be a 4-hour mini-series wrap-up that Brian Henson is directing. Pre-production has already started in Sydney.
While I wish it was season 5.... Season 4.5 is better than not having it at all.
Of course, nothing is official until Henson says it is...

More like season 4.2 but yes, still better than nothing. At least we will have closure now.

Farscape's return in any form is FANTASTIC! It was so frustrating how story plotlines were left dangling!
Cheers to fans everywhere!

This was on digitalbits.com
In a bit of non-DVD news, you Farscape fans (like us) may finally have reason to rejoice. Word is that the Sci-Fi Channel has realized the error of their ways, and has commissioned the production of a 4-6 episode miniseries to wrap up the cancelled show. With a little luck, and good ratings, you never know what might happen. You can read more here at IGN.

FYI - It's offical....

I just wish it wasn't SciFi/ USA that was doing it. Somehow, I fear they'll find a way to f it up. There has to be a significant number of execs at USA that signed off on killing Farscape in such a brutal and back handed way. They've been stung by its resurrection and will have a lot invested in the new episodes failure. Show them out of order, push them to a time that few will watch, compromise the scripts, they're going to try to find a way. Well, hopefully they'll fail just like they failed keeping it dead.
Posted by: drew2k
I just read the blurb on SaveFarscape.com, which says Farscape is returning as a 4-hour mini-series, but doesn't actually say that it's returning to Sci Fi. quote:
Savefarscape.com is now free to confirm that the rumors swirling have their basis in fact. Farscape, cancelled last year by the SCI FI Channel, will return as a 4 hour mini-series. Sources report that filming will begin in December and the series is expected to air next year. Ben Browder and Claudia Black will reprise their roles as Commander John Crichton and Officer Aeryn Sun.
A Jim Henson Company production, Farscape was aired for four seasons on the SCI FI Channel before being cancelled in September 2002 with the fourth season finale and last new episode airing at the end of March 2003.

Awesome. I really thought this thread was just to torture me again. (OK, I'll admit I take show cancellation a little personally. So?) :D
Posted by: whitson77
Yeah!!! Can't wait till next year and I really want to get every season and the conclusion on DVD.
Sweet.
Posted by: ZikZak
Hooray!!
4 more hours! 4 more hours! :)
Posted by: Ariel-1
If ratings are great for the four-hour miniseries, maybe one of the cable channels will pick it up. Scapers should start petitioning HBO, Showtime, and some other cable channels that seem like a good fit.
Posted by: bicker
You can forego Showtime. They have no taste for the lukewarm ratings and high cost of such shows, after their experience with O5.
Posted by: coldtoes
What article said it was SciFi/USA? TV Guide said yesterday,* "Since the telefilm is unlikely to air on Sci Fi, word is it may be sold into syndication. So there!"
* Link works as of posting, but click "Tues 11/18" at the top of the page if the link has been updated to a more current date.

I came late to the Farscape party thanks to last month's SciFi marathon. I have watched all of Season 1 but have not started Season 2 yet. When the marathon came on folks said that the Season 2 episodes where out of sequence. 1. Can anyone verify? 2. Why the frell would they shouw them out of order if they are going to show them at all?
Posted by: bonehead
This is excellent news!
I didn't watch Farscape when it aired, but I've recently been catching up through online sources, since SciFi only airs reruns sporadically and out of order. I'm about halfway through season 2 right now, and this show has already earned a spot on my list of all time favorites, in any genre.
Now with this recent news, I'll definitely consider buying the DVDs. There's no way I was going to spend $540 on a story with no ending, but now that they're getting a chance to finish things up, I'd definitely like to add this to my collection.

I believe that is true. The correct episode order can be found here.

Thanks for the link, that guide is much friendlier than the one at farscape.com!

My comments on the order that episodes are listed in in that guide (production code order): This is how I watched them for the most part, and it works pretty well. The only comments I have are on season 2. It should be obvious that Look at the Princess 2:I Do, I Think. should come between parts 1 and 3, regardless of the production codes. The other comment is that Dream a Little Dream (Re:Union) and Mind the Baby each sort of give away something from the other and it can be a bit confusing.

(Yes, I'm a geek. Why?)

I'd say that it's pretty obvious that those are *not* the correct order for viewing. Production code order and the proper order for viewing are not necessarily one and the same. It's not that unusual for a series to film episodes out of order, especially if some of the episodes may involve extra work on the effects department to get the episode finished. The fact that some of those multiparters are clearly out of order is a pretty good indication that the episodes were filmed out of order.

Point well taken. You can resort that page by US or UK air date, by clicking on the links at the top.

Sorry to bring this back up, but was the latest rumor just a hoax to get us excited? I haven't heard anything else new in a while to confirm that they were getting back in production.
Posted by: KLB
It's no hoax. The rumor circulating is that they are already in production.
This is absolutely, check has been written, contracts signed, you can bet your dog on it, start setting your Tivo now the straight story and the reason that there hasn't been much about it is because they really don't know where it will air when it's done.
Probably air periods will be late 2004 at the earliest. There might also be something having to do with sciffys rights to the reruns and when that runs out but I'm not really sure.

The only thing that's lacking is the official announcement, which was scheduled then postponed twice.
Posted by: drew2k
I wonder if Sci Fi is putting the screws to Henson, or if Sci Fi has first-refusal rights or something, cuz it really sounds like Henson is having a tough time finding someone to broadcast the finale.
