South Park 11/12 (spoilers)

...Totally. :D
Not the best episode of South Park ever but it had its moments. Poor Butters. He is still my favorite character. Who knew his real name was Leopold though?

This one was a little out there, even for South Park. I've come to expect some pretty biting social commentary from ths show, and last night's episode really didn't deliver that.
I did, however, like the "Jew" montage. :D :D :D
All in all, I give this episode

southpark general question,
has someone else taken over the voice of Cartman?
I thought Trey and Matt did all the male voices. Cartman sounds different.

I'm still trying to figure out what the show was about.

Sounds the same to me. I remember his voice clearly from some of the other Cartman-centric episodes like the one where he bought the theme park.
I know they put the voices through a synthesizer to adjust the speed and pitch...maybe they changed Cartman's formula?

Casa Bonita...
Posted by: ufo4sale
I've never heard of that before. It's funny how a 10 year old wants to go to a place like that.

Thought he was 9...

He is I forgot.

Casa Bonita is a real place in Denver, CO. It's exactly what it is in a show, a fairly lame Mexican theme restaraunt. For some reason it's a big deal for kids to eat there. I remember going there as a kid with my family. They even have a website: http://www.casabonitadenver.com/ The show was pretty funny to me because I grew up here and I remember a what a big deal going to Casa Bonita was. I'm sure most people were confused about it.

Now it makes sense, thanks.

Not every episode has biting social commentary (but the best ones do). I'm surprised I didn't read any comments on the episode the week before, the one where seniors get their driving privileges taken away.

Sigh...every time I hear "Casa Bonita" I instantly think "Case Bonita, Casa Bonita, food and fun in a festive atmosphere"

For whatever reason, I found myself (for the first time) keying in on Cartman's voice as well in this ep. Heck, I watched it on TiVo 10 minutes ago. It's the first time my brain had an interest in the voices, so perhaps you're onto something there.
South Park really is great with the social commentary. Am I correct in remembering that the societal barbs only really got going a few seasons ago, or did the earlier seasons also focus on "real" storylines? People that avoided it for the gross-out, sophomoric humor (and they're still plenty of it) are missing out on some great comedy. I also love when they're able to hack together an episode within only a week or two of a big headline...not many shows can do that as well as they've done.

Me too. I'd never thought about Cartman's voice before and I noticed it when he gave Kyle the little speech by the lockers. Something was off.
Oh and this episode was pretty subpar in general.

It was a decent episode, IMO. But the best ones are those with the social satire. They're always the funniest. Even the social comments I don't agree with.
I didn't notice anything different about Cartman's voice, though.

I think you all missed the social satire in this one. It was there, but a lot more subtle. This one was about how kids treat other kids. Was it right for Kyle, in front of his other buddies to exclude Cartman from his birthday party? This kind of thing happens in real life all the time. Cartman picks on Kyle all the time, but he IS part of the group. Butters plays the gullible kid that everyone always picks on, and was an easy target for the maniupulative Cartman to exact his revenge. There were a couple of other subtle little things in it that I couldn't recall.

Not one of their better episodes... Cartman's voice sounded normal to me.

I laughed quite a bit and give the episode a thumbs up. I especially like the final scene where Cartman hurriedly crams in a whole afternoon's entertainment into one minute while the police catch him and tell him he's going to juvenile detention. "Was it worth it?" the policemen ask. And Cartman gazes up at them with a big smile and says "Totally!" That was the perfect way to end the episode.

Oh, also I think Cartman really outdoes his level of selfishness in this episode. My hat's off to the writers for always coming up with new and outlandish ideas for the show, ideas I'd of never thought of.

Cartman's voice was definitely different. I think it is most noticeable during the scene in the school's hallway. Both my girlfriend and I noticed it at the exact same moment.
Otherwise, I loved the episode. Cartman and Butters are the two funniest characters on this show, so anytime they get a lot of airtime I'm laughing my butt off. Butters singing that song and building his own civilization were funny. I love the joke about PF Chang's. Anybody watch The OC on Wednesday and notice they had a PF Chang's joke, too? Quite odd.
I can't believe that Casa Bonita is actually a real place. If I'm in Denver, I'm definitely going to stop by if I have a chance.

I remember Butter's mentioning that he built a PF Chang's but I missed the joke about it. What was the joke?

I loved this episode if for no other reason than that I went to Casa Bonita several times as a kid. It looks just like it did on the show too.

It's the same voice, it's just they don't have Cartman talking with that tone of voice very often. So it kept slipping into a voice that sounds more like other characters voiced by the same talent. I kept picking up on hints of Stan's voice.
In other words, you're just used to him sounding angry, greedy, or evil.
Maybe they'll revoice the scene this weekend.

There was a credit for a "Leopold Stotch" that I didn't go back to look at.
Real or a joke?
Posted by: daveyg013
Yeah, the credits were for Eric Leopold Stotch, Director of Animation, or something along those lines. Not sure if he's real, I'd have to check some other episode when I get home. Anyway, I think Butters Stotch is a pretty funny name.
Anybody know what's up with this episode not having a name? The Comedy Central website says they don't even know the name of the next episode.

I don't watch SP much, but enjoyed this episode. I love Butters! My SO and I still quote him when he was trying to flood the world with a garden hose ("Gee this it taking a really long time!")
We really laughed when Butters was singing the Chicago song...
"If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me.....OOOH OOOOH OOOOOH baby, please don't go..."
Loved it!!

Casa Bonita's depiction in this episode was totally accurate. They even got the outside look of it right, including the run-down neighborhood it now sits in (notice the pawn shop and liquor store in the background while they were in the parking lot).
I remember loving this place as a kid. I took a date there when I was around 18 because she had never been there before, and all I could think was, 'man, this place was much cooler when I was a kid!' :)
The food there is bland, cafeteria-style Mexican food, but the environment is very unique. The place is huge, with several floors, a large video arcade (my favorite), and a 3 story waterfall (with cliff divers, of course). This is the kind of place that would be right at home in Vegas.
Its one of those places that you only visit once. The locals only go there to show out-of-towners, or for childrens birthday parties.
I thought it was strange the episode centered around this place, since almost no one outside of Denver would get the joke. :)

We had a Casa Bonita in Oklahoma. It just didn't have the several floor thing going on. It was bland, cafeterial style Mexican food, and had the little flag you raised and lowered when you wanted anything. I just figured it was something made up for the show. It isn't required that the place be real to make it funny. There was enough in it to make it familiar to people not in the know.

He was showing the lady that found him around the town he built and he said "And over there, that's going to be a PF Chang's...or maybe a Bennigans".
