Monster Garage: Escalade Tailgater (spoilers)

I think the Escalade turned out really sweet but what's up with not following the rules? I thought the new rules were one freebie and a $5000 budget? They had a couple freebies and about $8000 over budget.
I new something like that was going to happen from the beginning as soon as they started talking about sound systems, dvd players, and a 42" plasma.

Check the recording. They omitted the "one Freebie" rule.
Still, going $10,000 over budget?!?!?

Why change the rules if you're not going to follow them. This was just rediculous. Take an expensive SUV and throw lots of expensive toys in it. Oh, mount the satellite dish on top with magnets. Yeah, whatever. While it was neat to see a team work well together, I thought the whole idea sucked.
On the Monster Garage board, there's a request from Jesse for a Datsun B210 Honey Bee. It would be fun to see them turn this into something different.

This is the second week in a row they blew the budget and used multiple freebies. I thought the concept of changing the rules was so they could be followed.

I thought I heard them mention the single freebie rule, but I can't say for sure since I've deleted the recording.
By my count they got 4 freebies and went > $8k over budget. Even worse than last shows hearse rebuild for ignoring the rules.
I wish that when they blow the budget like that; at the end of the show Jesse would tell them it was a cool build and a great vehicle (assuming it actually was) but since they blew the budget no tools for them :)

With all the AV gear and hydraulics, there's no way they could have done this project for $5k and one freebie. They should have had more realistic goals. And what's with the 666 on the hood?

I agree. Either they should give them a realistic budget (so, ok, we can build a kegerator or just buy one and build something else) or only pick projects that fit into the set rules.
I like the variable cost concept though.

I've only seen this twice so far...both of the Grim Ripper episodes. I kind of like it, but I really have a problem with the going over budget thing. It was like 20 minutes into Grim Ripper II when they were way over budget. Either get rid of the budget completely, or make them follow the rules. They never even mentioned that they went over budget, other than the running total that showed on the screen.
I might SP this show. I'm already SPing Mythbusters and More Than Human, both great shows where guys get to build some crazy stuff to prove a point. Does this genre have a name yet?

Yeah, but wasn't Grim Ripper II already over budget even before the design stage with the delivery of the backhoe part? The tag on it was $8,700.

Well a friend of mine used to live underneath him and she used to liken him to the devil. Who knows. . .

Yeah, why bother with the rules? I watch only the last ten minutes anyway to see the end result and avoid the silly prep work. :D
