Jackie Chan Adventures (animated)

Does anyone else have a SP for this? It's one of my all time favorite animated series. Well written, fun and surprising.

I love the relationships between the core characters... the little family they've built with Jackie, Jade, Uncle and Toru. Especially love the Uncle character. I actually find myself using "uncle-isms" like "Aye-YAH," when something goes wrong, and the infamous (If you watch the show at least) "One MORE thing..."

There's just a hundred other little things that make the show great. But I've never seen it discussed here so I'm wondering if I'm a freak for watching it. :) Or just immature...

I've been watching it for a couple of years now and I absolutely love this show. I also sometimes say "one more thing."

One more thing.

Magic must defeat magic.

I love JCA!

I like this show too! It's had some cute stories and some funny one-liners. I saw from the credits that actor Julian Sands was doing the voice of Valmont, but now someone else is. I think the new voice actor is not as good as Julian Sands was in the Valmont part. Interesting, that he also played the villain in Jackie Chan's last live action movie!

No ... BUT

My Virgin TiVo recorded this as a suggestion all the time (in Spanish none-the-less)

I've been watching his show since Day one. It's one of the few cartoons that doesn't talk down to it's audience. Good action, good storytelling, and even seasonal arcs!

Trek's B&B could learn alot from this show!

I love this show! Action, magic, humor, and talisman superpowers!

Aye-yah! I love this show! Uncle and Jade are great characters and I'm glad to see them growing Tohru some this year with the Japanese Oni masks. I was hoping this would be a good excuse to bring back Mommy.

One MORE thing... Mommy and Uncle need to get together. ;-)

We've been watching since the first episode too, and definitely use some uncle-isms in our daily life. Our daughter reads the books and has a T-shirt too, and we've gotten some of the toys.

Yes, well done. Funny and entertaining.

I even have an episode on DVD from when they were giving them away in boxes of Cheerios.

It gets picked up by my Jackie Chan wishlist and is often pretty entertaining.

Here's an entertaining page about the “Aiya!” exclamation (usually written 哎呀). “Aiya!” is used widely in Chinese (not just in Cantonese) and was also uttered a number of times on Firefly as I recall.

One nitpick is Uncle's supposed inability to make any sense of what is probably classical or older Japanese. For example, in the first scene in which Uncle exclaims that he can't make sense of the Japanese he's reading about the masks, the actual characters shown are just a bunch of digits (something like 4, 5, 7), which are the same between the languages. I suspect they were chosen because they are simple enough that Chinese-American and Japanese-American kids would be able to recognize them and realize as kind of an in-thing that what was written bore no relation to what the characters were discussing.

Obviously, this whole shtick is a plot device to enlarge the importance of Tohru's role. In reality, the vocabularies of the two languages are roughly about as related as English is to Latin; so Uncle should be to get some vague sense of the Japanese, especially for words like “steel” and “fish”.

I think what the problem was is that he needs to do a lot of research and the books he needs to look at is in Japanese.

Another piece of trivia is that the real life Jackie speaks Japanese (I have no idea how well). Animated Jackie seems to lack this ability. :)

I love this show. The episode with the "Chi Vampire" from a couple years ago is still on my TiVo, set as SUID. :)

I have that too! Though I don't think I've even broken the seal on it. :-)

I wish they'd start to release this on DVD. It's on my wish list.
