Hi I wonder if anyone could please help. I have an old unsubed upgraded Phillips HDR112 (the first Tivo that I bought 4 years ago) that I have been using just for manual recording of the security cameras in my house. It’s the only one of my Tivo’s that’s NOT on UPS, after a recent power outage it now gets stuck on “Almost there …A few seconds please”. I have replaced the HD with the original and I’m still getting stuck with the same message, is it totally fired ?

Thanks in advance for any help

It's probably a dead modem. Try mounting the active root partition and delete /tvbin/modemtest

Robert, thanks for the quick reply. The modem was not connected to a phone line at the time , would that make a difference ?
Also even thought I have upgraded all my Tivo’s myself I’m still very much a novice , could you please explain to me in a bit simpler terms how to delete the modem or point me in the right direction

Thanks again

Thanks Robert,
I tried to delete the modem with no luck, them the strangest thing happened. I put the old original drive in and it booted up, so I restored an old image to the bigger drive and tried that and it booted up. So I had to power it down to move it back to its location and now it wont boot up with either HD, ut just gets stuck at the “almost there, a few seconds pls” screen

Thanks

Steve

Maybe a problem with the power supply, then? That would be consistent with having a power outage. I wouldn't claim to be an expert on power supplies. You might want to talk to WeaKnees to see if they recognise the problem.

Robert, after reading my last post I realized that it was not that clear,. The Tivio always boots up but it gets stuck at the almost there screen (apart from the couple of times it went all the way through to Tivo central)

Thanks again for your time

The issue with machines with bad modems getting stuck at "Almost there" seems only to apply to Series 1 DirecTiVos in our experience. So since you have a standalone, that shouldn't be it. Next, usually if a power supply is problematic (but not always) the machine won't even give out video.

What you have here sounds like a bad hard drive. Your old drive works; your new one doesn't, right? So the new drive may be bad. Have you tested it? Have you tried the image on another new drive or tried making a new backup of the good drive?
