Drew Carey Finale and Whose Line?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Did ABC ever conclude last season's Drew Carey, where he was trying to get married? It wasn't the best season of Drew, but closure is always nice.
If I did miss the end, what happened?
Does anyone know why they killed Whose Line? I know Drew had overstayed it's welcome, but I thought Whose Line still had some life in it.
Thanks.

Shoot! Whose Line was axed? Man! They get an Emmy win, and they go away? That sucks.

I believe that Drew Carey is currently poised as a midseason replacement.
The ratings haven't been that good for the show in the past 1-2 years but they stilll have a guaranteed contract with ABC through the end of this season. So I think that new episodes are being produced.
Whether or not they will air on ABC is anyone's guess.
As for last season:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
the last episode was Drew's wedding to Tammy Lauren's Lily. Even though Drew's mom realized that Drew loved Kelly and Kelly loved Drew, he still married Lily.
Lily then ran out on Drew after the ceremony saying that she was sorry and it was a mistake for them to be married.
Drew went to his wedding reception anyways to drown his sorrow with booze.
Kelly found him there and danced with him and then they kissed....

Thanks JYoung. I had forgotten about the episode you describe in the spoilers. Glad to hear Drew may be back.

And they still have some unaired episodes of "Whose Line" in the can as well, although it's been two years since they last did a taping, believe it or not.

ABC said if it did not come back as a mid-season replacement, then they would definitely let it end in the summer.

the cast actually performed at Princeton recently, but not for an actual show taping.

I thought the Drew Carey show was dead, but I see that as of today tickets are available for 12/9, 12/16, and 12/23 filming from tvtickets.com
I went to a filming last year and, although the show itself was pretty bad, the experience was fun. Drew Carey does the warmup himself and takes questions from the audience. The accidents and mistakes that happened during the taping were funnier than any of the jokes in the show. On top of that, the guy who entertains the audience between takes was very good with jokes, magic, audience games, and juggling. And there was free pizza.

ABC may bring Drew Carey back as a midseason replacement. I repeat, MAY.

I missed the last (maybe last couple) episodes of Drew and am very disapointed about it.

Two years since they taped Whose Line?! Wow. That's my favorite ABC show, I hope they don't can it.

Did a search, figured this was the best place to post this....
MercuryNews.com - "Drew Carey Is Quietly Going Away"
quote:
from the MercuryNews.com article:
"You can point to a lot of things that ABC did - they did a lot of things that were dumb," said Sam Simon, who directed the final episode, "and I think this was one of them."
...
Simon said the show was effectively orphaned, as is often the case in the creative community, because the people who greenlighted it lost their jobs.
"If the people who put the show on the air at ABC were still there, we'd still be on the air and we'd still be a hit," he said. "It's just an embarrassment to new regimes when other shows do better than the ones they put on the air."

In the rest of the article (for those too lazy to click on the link) it indicated that new episodes of Drew will show up this summer - 2 a week to clear out the last season that was taped but hasn't aired yet.

I'm not too lazy to click on the link but Mercury News wants registration. ;)

I didn't notice that -- I read the story here: http://www.canoe.ca/Television/may2_carey-ap.html (no registration)

Looking forward to the final season.
Definetly liked Drew Carey better than Friends. Great article.

The show would be a hit? I doubt that. The show was good, but it had run it's course, and needed to wrap-up really...

Just like Friends has run its course 5 years ago and was never a hit afterwards ... oh wait ... the networks can make any show a hit if they want to.
Did you see "Turkeyspotting" last year? That may have been the funniest Drew episode ever.

Drew Carey may not have been a *hit* but how many hit comedies does ABC have? With John Ritter passing, I'd reckon none.
(missed turkeyspotting. Actually missed most of last years' drews. Always forgot when it was on (yeah, i've got tivo now).
