Hello,
I am new tivo user and I love it. I have two 80 gig units with HMO and on a network. One unit is in the family room and has all the recorded items and the other is in the home theater and is used only to stream to.
Since the one in the family room is running out of space how do i move recorded movies to the theater unit?
also I know you can offload to a VCR is there a way to offload to DVD/R?
if anyone can share on how they are doing drive management and archiving that would complete my total tivo experience.
thank you@

To "move" the recordings to the other TiVo, you transfer them to the home theater unit (you don't have to watch them while they transfer) and then delete them from the original unit once you've transferred successfully. If you have two 80-hr units, you should be taking advantage of your full 160 hours of storage!
You can offload to DVD-R in the same manner as you would to VCR - just hook up your DVD recorder as if it were a VCR and use the "Save to VCR" menu choice.
Did that answer your questions?

In Now Playing on the very bottom should be the name of your other TiVo. If you do not see it then you are not properly configured for HMO on both of your boxes.
Did you buy HMO for both boxes? If not then you need to purchase it on each box and each box needs to be in the same account in Manage Your Account on www.tivo.com.

We have a 240 hour unit and an 80 hour unit. The 80 hour unit is used primarily in the resolution of schedule conflicts -- and where I get top watch L&W while spouse deals with Survivor, etc. There is substantial transfer of programs using the MRV capability of HMO. Archiving has not been an issue -- we tend not to save programs beyond our initial joint or separate viewing - - things that I want to have for posterity (24, Soprano)end to come out on DVD -- which has enough better PQ to make the wait and expense worth while.

Hi Ron,
Thank you for responding, I have HMO on both units and I do see the other unit from both of them. What I need to do is take something recorded from unit 1 and move it to unit 2, what I have been doing is going to unit 2 and watching what is on unit 1. I hope this make sense.
The streaming from each unit is working fine what I need to do is move off some items from unit 1 to unit 2. I am in the process of hooking up a DVD-R so I can offload things i want to keep.

Makes perfect sense since that is the way HMO currently works.
The only way to offload to a DVD would be to use the same analog connection a VCR would use. You would play the show and it would output to the DVD recorder or PC with video capture ability. If you want something that is digital then this is not the right forum to disucss.

When you choose to watch something on TiVo 2 that was recorded on TiVo 1 you are 'copying' the item from TiVo 1 to TiVo 2.
Shows are not streamed from one box to another but copied, and the original stays on the source box until you choose to delete. Therefore every show you choose to view on another box creates a new copy on the box you are viewing the program on.
Once the show is on the destination box you can delete it from the source box thus 'moving' the show as you are asking.

And when you do the original transfer, instead of choosing "Begin playing," which seems to be what you always do, select "Continue browsing [DVR name] DVR." That way you can copy the program without having to watch it in progress.
edited to correct menu wording

I am thinking of networking 2 tivo' s can i dump my programs to a pc that is in this network ? is the ALL IN WONDER video card compatible with TIVO

Sending recorded programs tot he PC over the network would be a type of digital video extraction -- not a topic discussed on this board.
You CAN export the programs as an analog signal using the "Save To VCR" feature. If your PC card can accept RF, composite or s-video input you can record the program on the PC.
