Greatest American Hero?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

For all the seventies and eighties TV that gets recycled on TV Land and Sci Fi, has GAH ever been brought out of mothballs? I'd love a chance to see these again. Is it coming to DVD?

Believe it or not... I'm walking on air...

Posted by: timr_42

I do remember seeing it sometime in the past maybe 3-4 years ago. I did like the show and wouldn't mind watching it again.

Posted by: Bryanmc

I've had it on my Wishlist since I've had my TiVo, over 3 years.

Still waiting.

I never thought I could feel so free-e-ee.
Flying away, a wing and a prayer,
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me....

Just like the light of a new day,
It hit me from out of the blue...
Knocking me out of the spell I was in,
makin' all of my wishes come true...

I think the song went top 20....

Edit: Okay, I screwed up some of the lyrics -- hell I was only like 10 at the time! http://www.80smusiclyrics.com/artists/joeyscarbury.htm

HA! I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed that episode. Thanks for my daily laugh. :)

They are talking about making a movie.

If and when the movie comes out, I'm sure we will see the original series aired on Sci-Fi. I've also had a Wishlist for this series since I bought my first TiVo.

You can get the episodes from Ebay.

Anyone remember the Voyagers? I just picked up all the episodes on VHS.

I remember that one as well. I wouldn't mind seeing that again as well. Where did you get the tapes? EBAY?

Posted by: nineatesix

Search this site for bittorrent. There were a number of episodes available last time I checked.

I'd heard they thought about starting a new series, Ralph giving up the suit and the LGM giving it to a female. The Greatest American Heroine.

Posted by: Philosofy

My TiVo caught the pilot as a suggestion at least a year ago, but I haven't seen the series since it originally aired.

While I'm sure you can get lots of these lost gems from Ebay...I actually got the Voyagers tapes from a woman whose email address I found on some obscure TV website...

I'll try to dig the email address up tomorrow for anyone thats interested.

My best friend captured them from VHS she bought on Ebay and put 'em on VCD.

My favorite theme song EVER.

A friend of mine made a Greatest American Hero costume for the San Diego Comic-Con in 2001. He won the award for "Most Humorous." :D

(Link edited...see below.)

Well, apparently that picture has been highjacked.

Yeah, yeah. Try this link instead.

Listen up kid. This is the...

scenario.

Hats of to Bill for making that a household word. ;)

IF I recall correctly, the superman people sued the greatest american hero people for copyright stuff. They said it resmembled superman in many ways, so I think they had to cut back on some stuff. I remember the episode when the aliens came back and gave the guy (can't remember his name) the manual for the suit, but he read the first page and shrunk himself. He left the manual on a grain of sand (which was the size of a boulder) and ran off or came back to normal size b4 the ants could eat him. Good episode.

But then again, I probably don't want to watch the re-run. I remember when I was a child (5-10yrs) the six million dollar man show was so cool. I watched it a couple of years ago and said "huh". Same goes for the incredible hulk and dukes of hazzard. I think some memories are better left alone then revisited:cool:

There are four memories I have from early television

1. Hunter shooting some guy on a motorcycle
2. Spiderman fighting the Sandman in the original cartoon
3. The Misfits of Science where the guy could touch his neck and shrink
4. The Greatest American Hero having his suit stolen by a biker gang.

for some reason, these are the only ones that stick out before the age of 10. I always think of that biker wearing the too small suit when I think of my early TV career :) I would love to see this show again as it was by far my favorite as a kid.

The thing I remember about TGAH was Michael Pare trying to be the next Vinnie Barbarino.

I've been waiting for this to come back for years too.

I have the theme song on my iPod too. :D

Posted by: niferbee

Well I don't see it listed on TV Shows on DVD , so looks like it's not coming out on DVD anytime soon (this site is usually pretty up to date).

I thought I was the only person who had watched that show! IMDB says it was called "Voyagers!" (which always makes me respond, "Elephant!" for those of you who have seen The Tall Guy). Was it really Voyagers! with the exclamation mark? I guess I just didn't see the humor in punctuation at the time.

Posted by: nineatesix

Yes! It was! ;)

Posted by: devdogaz

Yes! It was definitely called Voyagers! with the exclamation point. I would love to see this series come back in rotations or come out on DVD. Not sure how much I'd be willing to pay for crappy degraded VHS copies, but if that's my only choice...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one where GAH makes him remember Misfits of Science. Wasn't Courtney Cox on Misfits?

Of course, I know (at least I think I know) these two shows were separated by a couple years.

I don't remember anything called Voyagers.

Posted by: MacThor

Ah, GAH...fond memories.

Was "Voyagers!" the one with the two young men (one twenty-something and one teenager-ish) travelling through time with some hand-held device? IIRC, that had the Bonnie Tyler hit "I Need a Hero" as the opening credit song.

Don't know about that, but it was the opening song for "Cover Up" with Jennifer O'Neill and Jon-Erik Hexum. (After J-EH shot himself in the head while fooling around on the set, and they replaced him with a forgettable Australian guy, the show kind of fizzled.)

Posted by: devdogaz

And to tie those last two posts together, Jon Erik Hexum was the twenty-something guy on Voyagers! (yes, he travelled through time with a teenager and a handheld time machine). He then was set to star in a show called Cover Up but had the accident on set before it ever aired.

Posted by: kitsap

No, at least some of Jon Erik's episodes aired.

Edit after research: He was in the first 7 episodes; four aired before his death, and three after.

Posted by: devdogaz

My bad. I was merely trying to point out that the Jon-Erik Hexum you referred to is the same guy MacThor was asking about. Sorry for the screw up on the facts.

Posted by: kitsap

Didn't mean to jump on you. Now that my short-term memory is gone, I have to keep checking that the old stuff isn't out of whack, too! :)

And I had forgotten all about the Voyagers thing, so I was interested in your post. Forgot? ... Uh-oh, the "long-term" goes to yellow alert ...

Posted by: MacThor

Yup, that's where I mixed them up. When I was a kid, I wanted to BE Jon-Erik Hexum.

At least briefly.

It was a phase :)
