Comcast "flip bar" can't remove

is there anyway to remove that damn "flip bar" that comast tosses across your screen as you change channels? Flip bar is that HUGE bar at the bottom of the screen that has some stupid ad and very little channel/program info.
I have the Moto DCT-2000 series. The best I can do is cut the display time down to 3 seconds. When I was on adelphia cable, I could totally remove this "flip bar" on my Scientific Atlanta box.
I could "live" with it were it not for the HUGE blatant advertising they put on the bar. :(
Infact their cable guide can only display 1 hour of programming due to all the "ads" they display on the left side of the box.
I wonder how motorola manages to stay in business. They make a marginal product and are always at least 1 year behind their competition.

No way to remove the Comcast channel banner.
I even attemped to bribe a seemingly knowledgeable cable installer for the "secret/backdoor". He only grinned, fully understanding my request, "There's no way to turn it off."
I've looked around a fair amount without success.
Bummer!

Is DirecTV an option for you? :)

I have to agree, the flip bar is a huge pain in the arse.

Which scientific atanta box can you get rid of the "flip bar"? If it was possible with my box, I would be interested in knowing how.

Sorry, I don't remember. It was an Sci ATL box I had with adelphia cable. it had Svideo/ethernet and FireWire ports on the back of the box.
My crappy Moto box Comcast gave me doesn't even have Svideo ports, just RCA. grrrrrr!!!!!

Jdmatl,
Comcast does have Motarola boxes available that have S-Video & digital sound out. I had to go to my local office with one of my old ones and ask them to switch it for me. Hopefully they are available in your area.

I think there is an option to change the amount of time it is on the screen. It is in the setup menu with the option to pick where it appears on the screen.

Well, this is WHY you can't get rid of it. How would they be able to sell advertisements on it if customers could just turn it off? ;)

Correct, but 3-seconds is the lowest setting (0-seconds used to be an option some time back).

You can move the banner to the top of the screen (its an option in the guide menu i think) then go to the Screen postion (?) menu and move the screen way up. Then the banner will be partially/mostly hidden by the Tivo banner that comes up.
I telling you this on memory, sorry the directions are not more clear

My Comcast Motorola "broke", so I can no longer access menus (like Comcast OnDemand, etc.). As a nice side-effect, I no longer have the "flip bar" either! I had called Comcast to get a replacement box, but then realized I like it better this way, so I called back and told them not to bother.

I believe there WAS an option to remove the channel guide bar on comcast cable... but this was before TV Guide was implemented.

That happened to me once when I had a comcast motorola. One day the power went out and when the box came back on it was back to normal. I tried and tried, but couldn't get my box to repeat the glitch.

Yeah, this seems to be coded into the core programming now. I checked the service menus and couldn't see any way in there to remove it.
I've been considering D* for some time now, but the HD offerings that CONcast is throwing out in my area are making it a hard switch, even as much as I hate that company.

I don't think Comcrap offers DISCHD anywhere. D* does and they offer the HDTiVo.
