Rediscovering Voyager

Since I work overnights and Star Trek: Voyager comes on at 1 a.m. here in Phoenix, I've been seeing every single episode again... Mostly in order. I don't remember it being this good the first time around. Once you get past the Maquis and Kazon nonsense, it's a damn fine show.
Sure, there are dog episodes, but there are dog episodes of every show. The Omega Directive, The Chute, Dark Frontier... Many episodes with The Doctor as the focus... Just good stuff. And since it's been years since I've seen many of these, it's like an entirely new series for me.
Can't wait 'til Deep Space Nine starts its syndication run on Spike. I just wish they'd start at about Season 3.

Did Spike stop the stupid practice that TNN had of showing a black bar at the bottom of the screen for the entire hour listing the name of the current program? I stopped watching ST:TNG on TNN because of that, and I haven't been back since they became Spike. If they still show the bar, I'm not watching DS9 ...

Spike no longer does the black bar, although I've noticed two annoyances while watching Highlander:
The bug in the corner is larger than most channels (or at least larger than most channels used to be--I think it was Mythbusters that I was watching that had an annoying bug in the lower left corner that was 1/4 the size of the screen!)
The picture still appears to be "off". Can't really describe it, other than it seems to be the same effect as when they scrunched stuff for the black bar--just pixelated and the shapes seem wrong.

It was one of the main reasons I'd looked forward to getting TiVo (in a way). As I loved the idea of the search/record functionality of TiVo. A week of owning my DirecTV/TiVo now and :( sadly it seems there are no channels (that I get) that offer ST: Voyager. I'm sure programming will change and a time will come when I'll get a chance to record those great shows. But its not today...
What really put me in the dumps (and shows just how long I've been forced to be away from Voyager) was that my Local Channels include UPN...and I was jumping up and down with that news as I thought Voyager was a UPN commodity. Apparently that is not the case any longer ...and/or my local UPN channel does not offer Voyager within its programming lineup.
Anyway...first post :D. Love the site & learning a lot!
Thanks,
Dave

Welcome to the TiVolution! (haven't said that in a year or so :))

I agree with the OP. I hadn't actually watched Voyager first run, so I'm having a great time catching up on my local CBS affiliate at 1:05 am Sundays. And the recent move to CBS is a big improvement over its previous home on the ABC affiliate, where episodes were shown out of order. Sadly, the power went out on our street last Saturday night, so I missed the second half of a two part episode ("A Year in Hell.") Grrr...

So, in other words, you're saying that Enterprise makes Voyager look good?

I did'nt have locals for two years after I got DirecTV and Tivo. I missed the last two years of Voyager. I am still finding episodes I had never seen. I agree with the original poster, after the Kazon, Voyager really picked up steam and became a solid Star Trek series. I rate it second to TNG. The characters such as the Doctor, Seven and Neelix were entertaining. The captain grew on me as well as everyone else with the exception of Bellana(sp?). It may not be for everyone, but I don't understand why some hated it so.

When is DS9 scheduled to start running? Because of various reasons, I never did get to see it during original airing and have been berating myself ever since!

Agreed with most of the others. Voyager got a lot of grief when it was on... but in looking back on the series, it wasn't bad... it was an all around solid show. I would still put DS9 first, and TNG second... but Voyager is a solid third in my book. I'd encourage anyone who bypassed the series while it was on to go back in syndication and give it another look.

We lost "Voyager" reruns here about a year and a half ago, and I've been in withdrawal ever since. Well, actually I've been in withdrawal since DS9 went off the air four and a half years ago!
Good news, though. The full season "Voyager" DVD box sets are getting released over the course of 2004. The first season set debuts in late January, I believe. No word yet if the price will be lower due the shortened season.

If I remember correctly, when the TNG on TNN thing was first announced, DS9 was scheduled to premiere on TNN (now SpikeTV) in late 2004 and VOY in late 2005.
