The spacing between the 2 drives is not standard. Is there any (non-Tivo upgrade) place that sells an appropriate cable? I can't find the cable in any of the places I normally order from.

You can usually use an 18" or 24" cable backwards - you'll just have a bunch of extra cable around.

I did some research on this. The only side effect of doing this is that cable select may not work if your cable is backwards. You should not use the cable select on your Tivo drives anyway...

Totally true - backwards cables render CS settings on drives useless at best, more likely even problematic. Also, there are times that you can use Master drives in the middle of the chain if the cable is going the right way, but they MUST be at the end of the chain if you are running the cable backwards.
