Upgraded HD312 problems

I've had TiVos for quite a few years now and this is my first time running into a problem. I have an upgraded HDR312 that I upgraded in 2000. Recently it started having problems (locking up, pixelating, etc.). I tried a reboot which didn't work and then tried rerunning GS. Well, now I'm stuck at "Housekeeping" on the GS. It locks up and wont' go any further. I'm assuming that I probably have a HD failure of some sort. I still have my origninal image from when I did my upgrade. I believe the software version was at 1.3 then.

Before I pull the drives and restore the backup, are there any suggestions on how to get around this problem? Also, when I restore the backup the software should upgrade itself to the current version automatically...correct?

Matt

It might be quicker to download the 3.0/112 image and work with that rather than using the 1.3 backup (is your backup an MFS Tools backup?).

I would restore your backup to both of the drives so you can run them individually in the TiVo to try and establish which one is dying.

I have no expectation that just restoring the software would make your TiVo behave any better.

I'd like to get that 3.0/112 image if possible. My original image was made with MFS tools backup. Also, I was under the impression that the image had to come from the same system so would a 3.0/112 work on a 312 system?

Your last statement indicates that you think this might not be a drive problem. If that is the case, what do you think it is?

Posting links to copyrighted software is forbidden by the site rules. Google can be very handy for finding things on the Net...

I said it's not a software problem. You will need to get a new hard drive and restore the software to that. Perhaps I misunderstood, but you seemed to be about to restore your backup to your existing drives.

Thanks, found it.

I'm going to try and figure out which drive is bad and replace that one.

So I can use a 112 image for my 312?

I would not have suggested it if I thought it would cause a problem.

Pulled the HDs (40GB A and 80GB B). Took a chance that it was the older 40GB drive and reimaged the 80GB as the A. Works fine now. Thanks for the hint on the 112/3.0 image.
