DirecTIVO- changes to rc.sysinit are wiped during boot

I recently gotten a turbonet card for a DirectTV TIVO unit from Sony.

That went smoothly and I can ping the tivo ok.

Based on the Turbonet instructions I have not installed any additional software since 3.0 includes the necessary drives and the telnet deamon. I've found ftp, tivoweb and other stuff online in this forum.

HOWEVER, any changes that I do to rc.sysinit get overwritten.

I've mounted both partition 4 and 7. 4 is the active. I make changes to both partitions. After re-booting and checking the drive the rc.sysinit is back to its original date, all my changes to rc.sysinit on the active partition are gone. However the files in partition 7 are ok.

What is going on? Is somehow this DirecTV TIVO doing a checksum or something and restoring rc.sysinit to original configuration? I've tried removing the telnet comand and just ading a dummy empty shell script with the right execution permissions. Same results.

Any thoughts?

It's the DTiVo lock-down. To break it you need to reflash the boot PROM and killinitrd. This is well documented in the DTiVo hacking guides.

Thanks Robert! Got everything working now.

The pages I had looked at made no mention of the reflash or kill_initrd.
