I have a Hughes GXCEBOT, it has been used already. I want to know if I can still make a backup of the drive using Mfs Tools before I upgrade. I'm not sure if it has to be a virgin drive to be a valid backup before doing so.
So basically, I just want to know if the drive I have will be a valid backup or should I search the net for a virgin backup.
Lastly, after upgrading, will I be able to use the timer to record shows? I know that normally you have to subscribe to do this?

There's no problem making a backup with MFS Tools.

AFAIK DTiVoes won't do anything without a subscription.
