I'd like to try to restore an image to a smaller disk, to confirm my drive is bad before I go buy a new one. (Call me frugal :)
Is it possible?

You can't go to any drive smaller than the original drive for that model. If you post the model number, we can tell you what size the smallest potential replacement is.

Thanks . . . more details won't help. The original was a 40Gb, and the biggest I can spare is a 27Gb. Time to run to the store :)
Thanks anyway,

He was thinking that if it was a Philips HDR, for example, you could use a 112 image (14Gb). But as it's a Series 2, 40Gb is as low as you can go.
