TIVO resets

I have a Series two TCD 130040 TIVO that began resetting more and more until it finally was not useful. I took the hard drive out and it was not detected on several computers ( I know it would not see the OS but it was not even detected). I then used an 80G I had and could not find the proper TIVO OS so I used the closest one available "TCD240040 Series2 40-hour 3.2." I put that on the 80G HD and the TIVO booted and ran for a while (15 minutes) but then started to reset again and again. Over the past few days it was clear the restting was related to temp. The longer it was on the faster it reset going from a max of 15 min to a min of 30 seconds. I have a lifetime subscription on this.

I also have a older TIVO that works fine other than a error when making the call, "failure to load series" but the programming is two weeks ahead. Must TIVOS have a subscription? Can they work manually?

Newer TiVos must have a subscription.

You can't use a 240 image on a 130040 machine - it may boot, but it expects pretty different hardware to be present and wont work long term.
