Uh-oh my Tivo is not producing any sound

I have a Sony SVR 2000 that is two years old. Obviously it is out of warranty. Within the first year my Tivo had a problem with the sound. It would lose the sound and I would get the Tivo blue screen of death. Fortunately I was able to have the Tivo repaired under warranty. This evening when I got home I noticed the blue screen of death, however this time when I powered the Tivo on and off and changed the channels I was unable to get the sound back. Look slike I am screwed...I purchased the lifetime subscription so I would like to get this unit repaired however I am afraid that it will be too expensive. Does 9th Tee or Weakknees repair broken Tivo's?

Can anyone who has had a broken Tivo repaired give me an idea of how much it cost?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Yes, you can get your Tivo repaired from various advertisers here, such as http://www.servicedvr.com

But give us more information about your exact problem. You mention "Tivo blue screen of death". I'm not sure what you mean by that. Usually a Tivo will hang on the "Powering Up" screen, or perhaps get stuck in its "Green Screen" as it tries to repair hard drive problems. What specifically are you seeing on your screen? And when you say that you "powered the Tivo on and off", did you actually disconnect power, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect power?

At first the problem was a blue screen with the Tivo logo that suggested change the channel...not exactly sure what it said. After changing the channels I got a picture but no sound. THe picture only lasted a few seconds. I did a search on the forums last night and unplugged the power, as you also suggested, and this seemed to have done the trick. Hopefully I will not have this problem again!

Sounds like a problem with the TiVo's built-in tuner, if by "blue screen of death" you mean the "cannot display Live TV" screen.

One work-around would be to get a cable box, use the TiVo's A/V inputs and bypass the tuner. You'd have the higher cable fee though, and would have to deal with controlling the cable box, which can be problematic.

(www.servicedvr.com only repairs Philips TiVos, btw, you'd have to hunt up a repair place that can do Sonys).
