Corrupted hard drive?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My HDR612 won't startup anymore. It gets to the "Your recorder is starting up, Please wait a moment..." screen and then reboots (over and over and over . . .).

Here's what happened. About 2 years ago I added a TivoNet card to my system and got telnet working on it. One of the major upgrades (2.5?)since then disabled telnet but since I wasn't using it I didn't worry about it.

Last night I decided to get it working again, so I pulled my A drive, mounted it in my pc and booted off of Dylan's disk. I then mounted the drive, used Joe to edit rc.sysinit and turned the system off. That's right, I didn't umount the drive and exit before I powered off. That's when this problem started.

Since then I've tried removing my changes from rc.sysinit and restoring the original copy of the file but to no avail. Did I corrupt my drive?

I'm not sure what to try next. I'm willing to rebuild the drive if necessary but I'd prefer not to if I can avoid it (the wife is already angry . . .). Any ideas?

FYI

I got this working again. The drive wasn't corrupted but apparently all of my rc.sysinit's were.

I loaded an HDR112 ver 3 image onto another drive and put it into my system and verified that it worked. Then I copied the rc.sysinit from that drive onto my original drive and "Voila!" it worked.
