I am interested in buying the PTV-100 Tivo unit by Phillips. It has only 14 hours of recording time. I am wandering does anyone know what size hard drive currently is in the unit and does anyone know if I can swap it our for a new 120 gig internal drive I just bought?

I believe they use a 13.8GB Quantum hard drive. And yes you can upgrade that model just as easily as any other TiVo.

It is indeed a 14gb drive, and yeah, the first thing you want to do is whomp in a bigger one.

If you feel comfortable around a PC, and like to do-it-yourself, check out Hinsdale's how-to for excellent detailed instructions. I did a restore just the other day, and it's simpler than it's ever been.

If you want a real easy solution, go over to The 9th Tee and order a preformatted drive - if you do that, all you need to do is open the tivo's case, resist the temptation to taunt the happy fun unshielded power supply, and plug in the new drive. PV
