ER 12/4 (expect spoilers)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Redleg

... not that there's much to spoil on this cockamamie show.

I think they really did Romano wrong. I got more enjoyment watching his tirades over the years than I ever did from that Dr. Wood, err Dr. Green, yet he is just brushed away while we had to endure two seasons of Mark Green fading away. I guess I always liked Romano in an almost atavistic way... it was nice to hear someone talk to those dopes the way they deserve. ;)

The character development seems disjointed this year. They are trying hard to develop the Indian doctor, which I like, but it seems forced. And it seems like a long time since Gallant had any meaningful storylines, which is too bad because he's likeable.

The Kovac-redemption storyline seems to have dwindled away too, which is unfortunate because it had a lot of potential.

Next week
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Carter's return looks like it's going to introduce yet another soap opera storyline, just when I was optimistic that this season they were returning to their ER roots. We'll see where it goes...

Posted by: bbshop

What I thought was strange is that they skipped over the reaction to Romano's death (unless I missed it). We went from everyone wondering where he was last week to the memorial this week....

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

I think they were just trying to say there was no reaction to Romano's death. It all just ticked me off royally. They did do him wrong. Although I knew most of what was going to happen coming in thanks to spoilers and was already hacked off about it, I did like the touch of Elisabeth burning the card from the staff. I hope she turns into a new Romano. I'm going to sorely miss that character.

On a more obscure note, no one ever said anything about Malik, who was injured in the accident as well. Considering he's one of the only actors from the original season, you'd think they'd have at least mentioned him in passing. Does anyone know if Deezer D has given up on ER with most of the rest of us? That'd be a shame.

And speaking of nurses from the original season, I have no idea how to spell her name but Helay really looks good after her recent weight loss...if a little bit tired. I thought it was funny that she showed up for shooting this season and hardly anyone recognized her.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

Also...blah blah blah Carter blah. I wish they'd just write him out at this point. I'm not interested in him any more. Guess that's what you get when you become too big to be in every episode. And the Luka/Whatsername romance line is just...bleargh.

Where was the incompetent pot smoker?

Posted by: pjenkins

I'm amazed you all still watch the show with all the complaints....

I still enjoy it, I don't think the story lines are as good as they have been in the past, but still enjoy the show in HDTV..

Posted by: lander215

Remember, it wasn't last week that Romano got squished, it was two weeks ago (real time), which ER has a tendancy to follow in real time. So what struck me as strange (since they didn't pick up from the last episode), was that they were having a memorial two weeks after he got smooshed.

Do *not* tell my husband that ER wasn't a rerun last night.

I deleted it, thinking it was!! :(

Ouch. But don't you have your Season Pass set to First run only?

Yeah, I do.

What was I thinking???

Posted by: Rcrew

Why is Abby such an incompetent student? Come on, 52%?

As for why we had two seasons of Green leaving vs. Romano, I just watched the Pilot episode last week. Green was the mainstay of the show for quite a while.

Romano... chalk it up to karma... but Elizabeth's acts were touching/fitting, and IMHO all that was needed.

As for Romano's replacement attitude wise, what do you think Kovach has been doing lately? He can't leave for Africa soon enough for me, as long as we don't have to re-visit him there.

Welcome Back Carter... or was that Cotter... regardless, if he comes back with Thandie Newton in tow... bring it on!

Hey Vinnie, Fly your 747 over here to pick me up !

I've often wondered why I watch shows that make me so angry with weak plot lines. But I do. Just another reminder I should do something else with life, like become a chronic drinker or something. :D

As for Kovac, he seems to be getting softer. And you're right. He can't leave soon enough for me, although I'm betting he doesn't go this time because of Nurse Whatsername and her serial killer in the making son.

I've known people like that--they can DO anything, but they can't take a test to save their lives.

Rhetorical questions from last nite's episode of "The Maura Tierney Show."

- If no one misses Romano, who placed the "rocket" (Rocket Romano) in the memorial? I doubt Corday did the two pics and the rocket.

- Why is Laura Innes still given a "starring" credit? She's been in this season, for what, a grand sum of 3 minutes?

- Did I miss something about the whole missing girl thing? Was her name of some significance?

- Dr. Gallant's sister has MS. What a suprise. Do any ER staffers have any family that is free of disease or disorder?

- The lackluster interns. These characters need to be around... why?

Stay tuned for previews of next week's episode of "ER: Christmas in the Congo"

Hooray! More of the pointless Africa storyline!

I'm really surprised that they went off into a story tangent of Amish Rumspringa. It seems like such an obscure thing. Why bother?

The idea was to have an excuse to show a parallel between that and the Indian doctor's own feelings about her family in London. Made perfect sense really. The only problem is... I just don't care. :)

It is in her contract.

Do any forum members have a family free of disease or disorder? Just counting up here for myself: Diabetes: 3; Macular Degeneration: 2; Barlow's Syndrome: 2; Degenerative Disc Disease: 1; Deafness: 1; McArdle's Syndrome: 1; Sciatica: 1; GERD: 1; Multiple Sclerosis: 1. That's just among immediate family, spouses and children, and we're really not all that unusual.

For a minute, I thought I was on a Star Trek board.

For those of you who don't know, those tend to be filled with people constantly complaining about a show, yet they don't stop watching.

I'm just curious if so many of you dislike "ER", then why do you continue to watch? I would guess a lot of you used to like the show and keep watching hoping it will get better.

I can barely find time to watch the shows I like. I sure don't have time to devote to watching shows I don't like and then discussing them on internet boards.

Exactly what I was thinking:D

Until...I noticed that 2 of my Tivo's had that season pass. I'm out of the doghouse now,but thanks for the many 'undelete options'

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

For me, I keep watching it probably for the same reason those Trek fans do...I have NO life whatsoever. Seriously. I consider going to the grocery store a social event. :D

Actually, my best friend from college is like this, and he's now a second year resident. He's the best, most compassionate doctor I've ever seen work. It took him a LOT longer to get through everything with his boards and exams, but I'd send my family to him a lot quicker than I would my brother, who is also a second year but was fantastically good with tests.

However, I fear that they're going to have her back out of the doctor thing YET again, and that'll tick me off. Not that I enjoy Maura Tierney in this role, mind you, but eh.

I wondered about the Romano photos as well.

I love that kid's response to Frank about gym class.

"What a shocker."

That made me laugh out loud (great delivery) and my dog woke up and gave me a wierd look. :)

Posted by: bicker

Yet, I think that response was actually off-target. If I'm not mistake, we know some back-story on Frank, that shows that his weight problems are comparatively recent. Wasn't he a Marine or something?

Posted by: bicker

Okay, here's this bit: He spent 26 years as a cop, so he was fit at least 26 years ago. (Very few police departments require cops to maintain the level of fitness they had when they first entered the department, but they all have consistently required a minimal level of fitness going in.)

Actually, they told us a while ago that Gallant had a sister with MS. Remember? The episode where they all had to go for sensitivity training after Carter put the dildo in what's her face's locker.

I have to agree about the Africa tangent. It seems a bit superfluous.

Is it me or has Pratt now graduated to being the biggest ass (whole [sp]) on ER (clearly, he was certainly running a close second to Romano while said character was alive)? Granted he is an ass of a different stripe though.

I still think they are just plugging Pratt into Eric Lasalle's position ... Granted Pratt isn't as experienced, but they will grow him into being a brilliant rogue physician..

Having just re-watched the Pilot episode last week, here's this:

I don't know if it was the same character "Frank", but the actor was in the ER as a patient. I believe he was a cop. Carter was brand new, and was assigned to put in an IV, which he didn't know how to do, and ended up sticking "Frank" at least 3 or 4 times.

When she said her name, I paused and rewound to see if one of the potential parents had mentioned a name, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I just had a feeling the Mom had mentioned a name, or a staffer had said so and so parents lost a daughter named blah blah... I didn't spend a whole lot of time looking, so it might have been there.

The un-parents said a name when they walked in the ER. Abby repeated it. I don't remember what name they said.

Posted by: Agatha Mystery

The name of the child that she herself gave was Amanda. The name of the little girl that was missing was something different, like Holly, or something else (can't remember and already deleted it).

Posted by: LlamaLarry

I thought the little missing girls name was Kendra while the ER girl's name was Amanda. Not sure why the huge delay in the girl answering the question or why the nurse just looked so surprised. Or why the story then fell off the show. All in all lame tangent and only thing I can think of was to show Abby that no good deed goes unpunished. ;)

But you do have time to read and criticize a thread you dislike, without otherwise contributing. Maybe it's psychologically similar?

I actually kind of enjoy complaining about it and actively making fun of it during the show, much to my poor wife's dismay. Consider yourself warned! :)

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

I think the whole girl-without-name arc was sort of a throwback to old ER episodes, where they'd bring in story lines in the middle, towards the end, whatever...and then not answer any of the questions as to what happened to the patient. Didn't pull it off as well as they used to, though.

I have to disagree. Benton was not like Pratt. Benton was quite self assured even arrogant because he KNEW what he was doing. Benton was not a rogue physician at all. If he took risks they were calculated risks. He never showed off. Pratt on the other hand is just a hot dog. I could deal with Benton without a problem Pratt is just simply annoying to me.

Posted by: cpalma

I think the only significance of the little girl's name is that she was able to say it at all after being left outside (to die) in the cold. Nothing else. I'm not sure Helle (sp?) was suprised as much as relieved and happy.

I was sad that no one wanted to give the obit for Romano, but pissed that the senior staff passed it on to their subordinates. And, in the end, no one did it.

Posted by: Hunter Green

Frank was a patient back in the pilot, then came back years later as an employee. In a surprising attention to continuity, they let the new Frank make some allusions to having been a cop every so often. No one has ever said that it's the same guy, but there's never been any contradiction, either.
