ptvupgrade kit received (adding a drive), near end of install, and discover the power supply end of hte Y power cable is wrong sex. :(

That will teach me not to check every last detail before beginning.

Emailed support at ptvupgrade, but I'm guessing noone will be in the offices until Monday. Damn, so close!! So tempting to take the cables apart and rebuild as needed, but I better not.

Anyway, be careful out there.

If you don't want to wait, any place like Best Buy or Radio Shack should have the correct Y cable....

There are two types of power splitters:

F-----M-----F
M-----F-----F

Both work equally well. Does the one you received have 1 F and 2 M?

Thanks for your help guys, but it was my fault.

I was attempting to replace the existing cable, when the intention of the kit (and the instructions, if I had read them well) called for extending the existing cable.

Maybe the instructions could have been a bit more explicit, to account for boneheads like me, but I really should have thought to do it that way anyway.

I retract any implied deficiency on ptvupgrade's kit, it is truely wonderful. I went from 41 hours to 219, without losing any preexisting recorded shows or configuration. Well worth the money.

Folks,

We did hear from the original poster here late yesterday evening. We do check email throughout the weekend, and we did confirm that the correct cable was included with the kit.

If you are installing one of our kits, we do recommend you thoroughly read through the instructions before taking apart your TiVo. We do try to be clear and concise in our documentation, however there is always room for mis-interpretion, depending on your experiences.

Naturally, we are always available for questions, both before and after the sale of our products to ensure a successful installation.

Thanks,
Lou Jacob
