reviving a Quantum Fireball drive

I upgraded my Tivo successfuly, and expected to take advantange of the drive I pulled out of my Tivo. It is a Quantum Fireball LCT 15.
However, when I connected it to my WinXP Pro machine, it recognizes it as a Quantum Fireball, but does not get the right parameters. I have tried fdisk, also the Linux fdisk, the unlock program, and still my machine (Asus motherboard with latest Bios) will not recognize it correctly. :(
I set up the parameters manually:

63 sectors
16 tracks
16,383 Cylinders
16 heads

Now I do get the 30gb, but at boot up I get a warning that the drive will fail, I press F1 to continue and Windows will recognize it and it works fine. However the warning and having to press F1 everytime I boot up is worrying and a pain.

Any ideas what to do to restore the parameters to the drive?

Thanks

Ben

Isn't the most likely explanation that the drive is failing? That the warning is generated by the SMART self-monitoring system and nothing to do with drive locking?

You may be right. However, the drive was performing perfectly in the Tivo when I removed it. Also I ran spinrite and it did not find any problems with the drive.
I tried turning of SMART monitoring on the motherboard, but I still get the warning!

:(
