"Named" Tivo device on DHCP router

Ok, I have my Tivo on the network with a TurboNet card and it is all working great. daily calls are being made via the ethernet connection as expected. The only problem is, I followed Jeff Keegan's instructions of setting up a "dhclient.conf" file in the /etc/ path to send a host name to the DHCP router so it could be identified by name. Actually, after installing the software from Jeff's book, it looks like it already put the file out there with the network name of "tivo". This is great. However, the router is not setting the name. The IP address is there and I can get to the Tivo with that address but the name is not set to "tivo" as it should.

The dhclient.conf file contains:

interface "eth0" { send host-name "tivo"; }

Any ideas why this is not working? Thanks in advance.

I am editting this to get it to the top of the "New posts" again. No ideas out there?

Hm. Odd that no one on this forum has any ideas for this. Is no one else using DHCP and logging the tivo as a named device?

To shed a little light on things the DHCP router generally associates an IP address with MAC address (a hardware address assigned uniquely to each NIC by the device manufacturer - or software driver). What has happened is that the Router likely sees that it has assinged an address to MAC XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX for your which had a name ("NONAME") before. Turn off your TIVO for a few minutes and reset your router or clear the DHCP clients table (I know I can do this in my Linksys but don't know much about yours). When the router is back up turn back on the TIVO. It should now show on the table as tivo - unless tha patch you speak of was not installed completely corectly.
