"Comcast Communications is nearing an agreement to purchase TechTV for nearly $300 million, sources familiar with the deal said Friday. The cable operator plans to merge the network with its struggling video game channel G4," James Hibberd reports for TelevisionWeek. Representatives for Comcast and G4 declined comment. A TechTV spokesperson said, 'We can't divulge anything right now and we're being true to the process. We anticipate an announcement before the end of the year.'"

They won't pull it from DTV, they'll just try to charge more for it every January, at least a $2/mo increase to bring it in line with their usual price increase.

I just hope TechTV doesn't get pulled from Cablevision. I wouldn't think that it would but you never know what CV will do about a channel owned by another cable company :)

Cable companies usually stick together. It's the satellite companies consumers that should worry...IMO

It would suck if they withdrew it from DTV and frankly, that would be a bad buisness decision since no one is going to drop DTV and pick up cable to get it. They will most likely leave it alone as they need the fees that DTV will bring in.

if TechTV was pulled from DirecTV I would be awfully pissed off, DirecTiVo and TechTV were the top 2 reasons I switched to DirecTV 2 years ago.

On the other side of it, my dad will be happy since he's got Comcast and they don't currently have TechTV.

I really don't think that DirecTV would care of TechTV left. Sure, some people would be mad, but not that many if an ESPN or the like were dropped.

I'm certainly going to be peeved if we end up with no TechTV on DirectTV. That's probably 30% of my TV watching right there.

As a DirecTV subscriber, I certainly don't mind not getting G4; I've seen it at friends' houses and I haven't seen much in the way of quality programming. Anyone who does watch G4, is there any good programming on there that I'm just not seeing?

On TechTV, I watch Big Thinkers, The Screen Savers, Fresh Gear, X-Play, and assorted other stuff. It'll be a big blow to me if DTV drops TechTV.

I can't imagine Comcast using the G4 name and not TechTV. TechTV is defintely the more well known name.

I'm sure ESPN has a larger following, but TechTV definitely has a large and loyal following of its own. I don't think DirecTV would drop it if it was their decision to make.

There are some good shows on G4, you just have to look for them.

Pulse is a weekly video game news show, Filter is a Top 10 list show with a different list every week and brings back memories of classic games, Judgement Day is a really well produced and funny game review show, Portal is a well written and funny show that creates serialized stories from MMORPG's, Cinematech is a collection of some of the best movies created for video games and Icons (think of biography) is a great show that talks about some of the greatest characters/programmers/developers in video games history.

It all depends on if Comcast will try and charge more for it. I mean, Paul Allen wasn't selling the network because of how WELL it was doing...

On my comcast.net home page, it has a lot of links to TechTV and G4 video shorts. I was curious about thier connection.

I never watch G4 and don't even know it's show line up. I saw some video game rating show but it stunk! This would help TechTV get rid of it's many re-run spots.

If they buy TechTV and keep everything the same, I think they should call it LinuxTV, or maybe MicrosoftsuxTV. I used to enjoy TechTV, now it seems to be just a "Linux is cooler than MS" infomercial. So much so, that I dropped it and numerous other higher channels.

I would really be upset if TechTV was removed from the DirecTV lineup. I easily watch 5-6 hours of TechTV a day.

I watch 2-5 hours of it a day now (averaged out over the week) and I'm not a critic... just a geek. Between Anime Unleashed, X-Play and the other shows, I'd miss TechTV if it went away

About 5 or 6 hours a week here. I like Techtv in a geeky kind of way...Plus most of the female host/co-host are nice to look at ;)
