A couple of basic questions I haven't been able to find answers to. If you have them, I'd appreciate some info:
1.) Is this a "Series2" TiVo?
2.) Is this model capable of using broadband for updates? If so, how much hacking do you have to do? I just bought a USB200M and I don't get links - do I need to crack it, and add the kernel mods? It was my understanding that the TiVo software supported a lot of USB <-> ethernet adapters. I'm using version 3.1 of the software.

1) Depends on whom you ask. TiVo would say no. It is a second-generation, however, pretty much identical inside to the HDVR2 and its clones.
2) Not in a supported fashion. It can be done, but it requires some software hacking that is "beyond the basics" and doesn't get discussed in this forum.

Is this the same hacking that is required to get a T60 working with a TurboNet?
- take hard disk out and place in PC
- use mfstools to make a backup
- use 9thetee installer to install some kernel mods for my device
- this also hooks up bash, telnet, ftp, etc
- put disk back in TiVo
I'm capable of doing that (did it on my other TiVos).
Has anyone had success in getting a USB200M to work on a TiVo with a USB enabled backplane? It says online that USB200M is the recommended USB <-> Ethernet card to use for Series2 TiVo.
So here's another question:
Do Series2 TiVo's use v4.0 of the TiVo software?
If so, does v4.0 include lots more kernel mods to enable USB ethernet devices?
I'm tyring to probe if my software (v3.1) is preventing me from using my USB ethernet device. And if that's the case, do kernel mods exist (targetted for the v3.1 kernel) that will work for a USB200M adapter.

There are a lot of folks using USB on a MkII (aka S2) DTiVo with 3.x SW. The drivers on the drive, just not loaded by default.
You used to have to monte the S2/MkII machines, but there is a Sleepers ISO - not many users here, more at the 'other forum'
There is not a lot of true hack talk here anymore - the forum rules are pretty strict. Do a google search for jjbliss.
