Will I lose sports/locals??

I'll soon be getting a Tivo and I'm a little worried about possibly losing my local channels and sports networks. The reason I'm worried is this...

I currently have my "Service Location Address" with DirecTV listed as my sister's address in NJ, but I live in FL. I'm doing this so I can receive NY local channels and more importantly NY sports networks (MSG, YES, FSNY). I currently do not have a phone line connected to my standard receiver (no big deal, I just can't order PPV with remote).

From reading these message boards, I've learned that DTV does not enforce the rule for having a phone line connected to your DTivo unit (aside from the "nag" screen), but it is required for initial setup and for software updates. So my question is this, If I connect my phone line for the initial set up and possibly when I hear about a software update, will DTV recognize that I'm not in NY and shut off those channels and give me the locals/sports networks that I really should be receiving in my area? Anyone have any experience with this? Would it be safe to do it for the initial set up but not for updates?

Also, about the "Nag" screen you get from your Tivo for not being connected to a phone line, does it happen right when you turn it on each day, or does it pop up kind of randomly while you're in the middle of watching something?

Might it be better to ask this question in the "DirecTV with TiVo" Forum?

Thanks, I've re-posted in that topic. I just figured that since this is kind of a "non-standard" situation that some people who frequent this topic might be able to help me.

I was thinking it was more of a DirecTV question than a TiVo one.

If you're looking for a hack to work around this issue, that would probably fall foul of the 'no service theft talk' clause (NB: I am not a mod, just expressing an opinion).
