Simple Life 12/16 - Spring Gala

I really liked this episode. The mayor having to continually grabbing the girls out of the pub.... killed me.

discuss...

Posted by: e30mpwrd

I thought this was a good ep too. I'm surprised to actually find myself thinking that both girls seem very likeable.

As for the pub--it seemed to me that they were actually only pulled out once, and that it was creative editing that made it look otherwise, although I didn't study it that carefully.

Although i really like the show, i thought it was kinda raunchy of Nicole to have the guy kiss her butt...And why wouldn't Paris wear underwear with such a short skirt on?

Posted by: mwhip

I think she was probably wearing underwear, it was a probably a thong and therefore the blurry image.

Why the hell do you put shoes on a dog?

The pie thing was hilarious, the grandmother was so proud she finally got the girls to do something. Then they left it for the dog to eat.

The brother's ex-girlfriend was almost the hero of the episode, she was so close to walking away when Paris and Nicole we being mean to her. If she would have just walked, she would have showed more class than the other two have in there whole lives.

I thought it was sweet that the girls wanted to look out for their little brother.

I am still not finding anything redeemable about these girls.

Is Nicole Ritchie supposed to be a good looking girl? because I just don't see it.

Posted by: mwhip

They need to reverse it for the sequel. Bring the family to LA, have them go clubbing buy expensive stuff and get stalked by the paparazzi.

I'm with Faerie. I'm not seeing anything particularly likeable about these two.

I don't think that they'd blur Paris' rear if she was wearing a thong. This is Fox we are talking about...

You and me both.

Posted by: devdogaz

My thoughts:

No, Nicole Richie is not hot.

I'm sure Paris was wearing underwear (a thong) but from that angle it wouldn't have looked like it, thus the blur.

Bringing the family out to LA for the "next season" sounds eerily like "The Real Beverly Hillbillies" that CBS has been trying to get off the ground, but too many redneck-rights groups have complained that the concept is demeaning to the hillbilly population.

All in all, I don't really see any reason that anyone would like these two girls. They are obnoxious and selfish and spoiled and they don't even realize it. There were a couple of instances in the last two episodes where townsfolk have asked them if they are spoiled and they said they weren't. If that doesn't show how out-of-touch they are with reality, I don't know what does.

Posted by: pmyers

I still enjoy the heck out of this show, but after recent interviews/stories/rumors I've heard about the show I just feel like everything is totally staged, from the Mayor calling Paris to the dog eating the pie. Still hilarious to watch though!

How funny was it that Paris yelled "Baxtor is hot!" LOL

Posted by: JYoung

Pesonally, I'm thinking that all the reality shows are staged to a certain extant....

Regardless of it being Fox, I believe the FCC doesn't allow thongs on public TV.

Some people feel that in order to be "good looking" you've got to fit that rail-thin Hollywood actress/model mold. Ritchie doesn't. I agree that she's not "hot", but she's not ugly either. My opinion is "good looking" is an apt description for Nicole.

Posted by: ClutchBrake

I agree with a poster in the other thread. Nicole looks like a female Jon Lovitz.

Posted by: janeoh

The FCC has actually allowed bare backsides on broadcast, so I don't think there's a cut-and-dry rule about not allowing thongs.

If you thought that I meant that Nicole wasn't skinny, that's not why I don't think she's attractive. In fact, I think Paris could stand to eat a hamburger (or 10). But when I see her face on TV, I can't help but think that's she not pretty in the least, but perhaps it's just her personality shining through that's really making me feel that way! =)

I don't think it mattered if she were wearing a thong or not. From that angle (behind and fairly low, with Paris kind of bending over the table) it would have looked like she was wearing nothing. Considering the general content of the show (lighthearted fun) and the early prime-time timeslot, it would have been in incredibly poor taste, even for FOX, if they had not blurred it out.

In what context and at what time were these bare backsides shown? It all has to do with the definition of Indecent. I realize there is a big grey area as to what that is, and broadcast TV tries more and more to push those boundaries, but my point was that those boundaries do exist and its up the the FCC to determine them. As wild as Fox's reputation is, they still have advertising dollars to worry about, so I'm sure they follow the norm and blur out anything that could be conceived as gratuitous nudity.

Personally, I could care less, whether they blur it or not.

Posted by: kitsap

Fox didn't need to include that shot of lower Paris. I'm sure they just thought it would be funny to include it and to blur it. This whole show is, after all, very tongue in ... er ... um ... cheek.

They are, and this one is nearly scripted.

The Grandmother seems very disapointed cause she had told everyone how good they did on there pies.

opps sorry could someone fix that

Posted by: BBQ Chicken

These girls ham it up for the camera so much, it is really annyoing. Like with Nicole crying when that guy came, that was so stupid. This show pretty much sucks.

I saw a naked butt on that new show about the mob on ABC on Tuesday night. The girl was in the bed, naked, after just having sex and then got up and put her pants on. You only saw her back, but when she stood up to put her pants on she had no underwear on and you could easily see her entire butt.

Yea, this show does suck, but then again there isn't really any other great TV show on at that time, anyway. Nicole is disgusting and Paris isn't too much better. I wish they had arrested them for stealing.

Am I the only one who finds this phrasing hilarious? I am not making fun of the author, as I have heard this phrasing in regards to the exact same thing.

Hysterical.

I think it's OK to show butts on late night TV. This show is on during the 'family time' so they couldn't. Besides, by blurring it out, they get more people talking about it and watching for more glimpses.

Right, but only after 10PM, the mob show referred to earlier was on during prime time, so it either didn't show enough off the butt, ABC felt the context of the show warranted the "nudity" and it wouldn't be considered indecent, or they just didn't care and decided to just take a chance that no body complains and the FCC wouldn't say anything. I don't know, I missed it.

I was actually really enjoying this show until this last episode. That whole crying thing that Nichole did was just dumb. My 9-year-old tries to play games like that. Aren't these girls supposed to be in their 20's?

Disgusting!

Can't you see her cat died? She's been through enough already.

The mob show that is being referred to is Line of Fire and it airs on ABC in the Tuesday 10 ET/9 CT slot. This is the same timeslot as NYPD Blue which is notorious for naked butts. Apparently the late prime-time slot is much more butt-friendly than the earlier slots, at least in the eyes of the FCC.

What I wonder is what the girls think of how the show is presented. Are they happy with it? Do they think they are presented badly, etc.?
In other words, do they see how spoiled they are?

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

This episode pretty much sealed it for me. It's a ridiculous show, and hearing that it's all a put on bothers me.

But what really bothers me is they theoretically told the girls to do these wacko things, but did they tell the family? It'd be rather mean to have the family not know certain things, I think.

Posted by: devdogaz

I'm not sure how much of the girls actions (or reactions) are scripted. I really don't think they are. However, I think the producers have been doing their best to place them in situations that would be interesting to watch. For example, how many first day employees at Sonic are asked to change the marquee, run the register, deliver food to cars on skates, fry the bacon, make onion rings, and wear the mascot outfits all before lunch? Having the Mayor call them and ask to register the dog was obviously contrived, as well as them co-chairing the spring gala. But I don't think their actions in any of these situations are scripted. I think they are simply being placed in situations and their own stupidity and selfishness and sheer lack of common sense about the real world is simply shining through.

Posted by: pmyers

Devdogaz...I just have to say that I've really been enjoying your comments about the various tv show threads on here. Keep up the good work.

For the record I also believe as you do, but I do think the producers were pressuring them to "ham it up" as much as possible for the cameras.

Hmm the underwear question has been answered: http://www.dallasnews.com/entertain...mple.5f3f8.html

Posted by: RocketMan

You mean that they WANT to be portrayed as stupid, lazy, self-centered, foul-mouthed, slutty, hoes?

What kills me is that many girls wished they had tons of money, fame and looks. Shows them what they MIGHT end up becoming!

Posted by: DLiquid

I thought the pies outside thing was obviously planned. Even the way they said "let's leave the pies outside" seemed forced. Then all the shots of the dog, how convenient. The crying thing couldn't have been planned, it was just too stupid and annoying for any producer to sign off on. Even though most stuff seems like a put on, this show is still mildly entertaining because some of the people the girls come in contact with have genuine reactions, like the ex-girlfriend. I'm surprised how willing these two are to play such poor excuses for human beings, though. I hope they aren't actually like that.
