Hi people

I activated my monthly subscription this morning and was wondering when it is likely that I will be able to access listing informations over phone line....

Also are there any great tricks that a newbie should know about using Tivo ?

Listings should be available right away - Force a download from the Tivo menu option and it should connect up and download. It will take a while to process the information once downloaded though - especially if you have loads of channels in your setup.

As for tips - don't 3-thumb anything (either up or down) would be one. Also try to get into the habit of not bothering when something is on. In a short while you'll most likely be watching everything from the Tivo menu whilst Tivo records new stuff. I found that I knew I was getting into the Tivo way of things when I realised I didn't know when anything was on on the shedules! :D

I activated my monthly subscription this morning ......

I took out my lifetime sub just over a year ago. At that time all the doom and gloom merchants were saying that it was a waste of cash and that Tivo would be belly up in weeks. In fact I will be in pocket in just a few more months and saving Ł10 every month from then on, and I could even sell my Tivo on Ebay today with its lifetime sub for more than I paid for it all (no, it's not for sale). If I was activating another Tivo today I think that I would still go for the lifetime option.

On tthe same point. I too activated a new account yesterday and even though i make that call and have set up the Tivo to my spec i cant get any listings as it says i need an active account . So what listings are available until the account is activated and will it really take 2 days :mad:

It can take two days; it seems that the list of activated accounts is only sent to the US servers once a day,a nd with time zone diffs etc it can take 48hrs.

A brand new TiVo gives you a week of free listings while this is being sorted out - unfortunately second hand ones don't have that luxury!
