Time Warner DVR-Question about power

I recently got a TW dvr (Scientific Atlanta). I have always had a second cable box dedicated to my Tivo. I am now using the dvr as the dedicated Tivo cable box so that I can record two shows at the same time. I will not use the dvr as my regular cable box because the channel changing is brutally slow.
The problem I am having it that it seems that the dvr turns off occasionally by itself. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas? I have it pretty well covered up so my remote for my other cable box is not turning it off.

The cable box, in your case the SA DVR, has been reported to turn off after the cable company has sent a firmware upgrade. Not much you can do about it. Some have set up a timer to turn the box on sometime early in the morning so that it is on when needed by the TiVo. I hope this answers your question, as I'm not quite sure I followed your problem.

But, the question I have is why are you using a DVR to supply a signal to another DVR (the TiVo)?

I do not watch TV through Tivo. I have a seperate cable box dedicated to Tivo. I would use the DVR as my main cable box but it is unbearable to use as your main box. The channel changing is terribly slow. When the come out with a DVR/cable box that works ok, I will change it. And, I set up the dvr to turn on in the morning.

Have you thought of using the TiVo without the cable box? The TiVo can tune analog cable channels and therefore you wouldn't be dependent on it changing the cable box reliably. Do you have two cable boxes? One for the TiVo and another for live TV? Please explain your exact setup, including cable box model number and TiVo model.

Really not that complicated. I have 2 digital Time Warner (Scientific Atlanta) cable boxes. One to watch tv and one for Tivo. I do not watch TV through my Tivo. Channel changing is just too slow. Now, one of the cable boxes is the DVR. I would like to use the DVR as the box I use to watch TV but the channel changing is way too slow. Now that is dedicated to Tivo. When they improve that, I will swap the boxes.

You have two digital cable boxes, one is the DVR version. The channel changing with the TiVo connected to the regular digital cable box is too slow. And, the digital cable box with DVR is also too slow. Not much we can do with this. It looks like you'll just have to live with this until TW can come out with a faster cable box.

How's the timer to ensure that the box is turned on working for you?

And, I have to ask! :) Have you thought about DirecTV?

The DVR and the Tivo are connected and both too slow. How slow do you think they are together? Doesn't really matter as I do not watch tv through either.

Interesting thing about the timer. Only options are weekends, weekdays and individual days. I set it for weekdays as it is the most days. Playing the odds. Hope it does not turn off on weekends.

I live in Manhattan. DirectTV is not an option for me.

Okay, I think I see what you're doing. Sorry if I seem thick here.:)

You record everything you watch on the TiVo and Cable Box DVR. Then you watch the recordings so that you don't have to put up with the slow channel changing.

How many timers can you set? You could set one for weekdays and another for weekends. That way you'd get the whole week.
