Transfer from DVD-RAM to editable format

Hey all,
My brother wants me to transfer his wedding SVHS to DVD. I borrowed a friends SVHS player and recorded the tape to my Panasonic hs2's hard drive. From here, I can either transfer it to DVD-R or DVD-RAM. My PC has a Toshiba drive that can read DVD-RAM (it also has a DVD burner to transfer back to disc).
If I transfer the footage to dvd-ram will the files be in an editable format that I can use with video editing software like the Dazzle products or "Sonic MyDVD?" I'm not looking to do anything fancy, just add a menu, some chapter breaks and add a few slideshows. I realize most of this can be done with the HS-2 but I want to do slideshows with music as well as have animated menus.
Thanks,
-Ed
