DirecTivo backdoor codes question

I have a hughes series 2, Version 3.1 DirecTivo

I have a few things that I would like to have but are only available with backdoor codes enabled, which I do not think I can do with version 3.1. I was trying to use a few codes for things like ..

1). Disk Space Indicator
2). Advanced Wishlist Options
3). Italic Font

These are some of the codes I have heard that can be used, and they would be nice, but I don't think they are available on my DirecTivo, which seems strange...

I also would like to have Caller Id, and a few other functions that I have heard about, but know I would need to get "TivoWeb" (or other software) and take my Tivo apart to do that, which I am not sure that I want to do, yet. So, for now, I was only interested in the codes I could use without taking the Tivo apart.

Any ideas on how to get backdoor codes to work on the DirecTivo?

The password for turning on backdoors in 3.1 is unknown., so there's no way to get backdoor codes working on 3.1 without pulling the drives and putting them in your PC to change the backdoor hash to something recognizable.

I found a binary patcher that enables backdoors here on the ************ forums.

There's a code for a disk space indicator?

I would just like to ask...what is the point in replying with a website if the website is listed as ********************.com? Just curious.

The forum is set to censor several web addresses that have content TiVo might frown upon. The site is usually d e a l d a t a b a s e . c o m

Thanks. I thought possibly someone was trying to be funny. I am glad I was wrong.

Yes, there are a few things that are available with version 3.2 or 4.0 of Tivo, but those are for cable users. I have 3.1 since I have satellite, so there is no way to get backdoor codes or any of the backdoor functions. (No backdoor codes exist for version 3.1, I'm told). I hope the next software upgrade incorporates some of these, as the disk space indicator would be useful to me, as well as a few others that are available to the cable Tivo users.

You can enable backdoor on your tivo by replacing the stored hash value with a known hash. The backdoor function is in place on all tivos including satellite units, its just that nobody knows the input to activate it.

There are two ways to get around this. First you can change the answer to something known (there are threads in the underground forum explaining exactly how this is done).
Or you can load one of these binary patches, which cause the tivo to believe that backdoors have been enabled. So even if no one has put out a patch for 3.1 you could still follow the directions to change the backdoor code.

I'm sorry, I should have said that I was looking for the way to enable backdoor codes without taking the Tivo apart, or removing the Hard Drive. I don't know how to modify the disk to allow using Hash codes, or doing any PC to Tivo updates, and I have heard that you can destroy the Tivo software, if you are not careful when doing this. And, with my usual luck, I would bet that I might destroy mine....hehe
so I do not plan on removing the Drive, or doing any Hacking. I do have a series 2 and can hook up an ethernet connection as I have a cable modem PC, but am not sure that will help. Is there a way to modify Tivo thru an ethernet port or USB port?

Anyway, I was referring to the other codes, like the 30 second skip, sorting the Now Playing, etc., which I use. But a few others, like the Disk space Indicator and Advanced Wishlists are supposed to be allowed with only a backdoor code entered by the remote, then followed by another remote code sequence to enable it (No modifications to the disk or operating system are needed). This is all that is needed for cable Tivo boxes with version 3.2 or 4.0 software, according to the book "Hacking Tivo". So, my real question was, is there a way to get these functions on 3.1 without removing the disk, as can be done with the cable Tivos...

Sorry that I was not clear on this..
