Is there a reason why the volume of my recordings is significantly lower than my live tv (about 40%)?

How is the TiVo connected to everything (TV, cable box, etc) versus however you watch live TV?

By "live tv" I mean hitting the "live tv" button on the remote, not a cable split. So the hookup is exactly the saem both ways. Wall - Cable box - Tivo - Television.

Weird! Okay, you knew that. :)
If you're watching something "live" and the volume is okay, what happens when you back up in the buffer? Does it stay the same volume? What happens if you hit the Record button (and select "continue recording in Best")? Does the volume drop? If not, what if you back out to Now Playing and start playing it from there?
I also wonder if it isn't tied to recording quality. Do you ordinarily record in something other than Best? If so, you could try scheduling a recording in Best and seeing if it makes any difference.

Are you testing on the same channel, program, time? For example, watching the first half of something live, then recording the rest and comparing the sound.
The reason I ask is that there can be dramatic volume changes between channels, or even between different shows on the same channel. For me, for example, MASH reruns on FX seem to run about half as loud as anything shown on the broadcast networks. (This is all with DirecTV)
Just trying to help eliminate possible variables

I have the same problem to. When watching anything that is already recorded the volume is lower then if you watch live TV. This is with all my stand alone units. I just thought it was a TiVo thing.

FWIW: I have two Series One machines and both show this behavior.
I rarely watch live TV, so switching back and forth between pre-recorded and live content (and adjusting the volume appropriately) hasn't been much of a problem. I just figured "that's the way it is; thank (insert deity of choice) for guiding the invention of remote controls".

I have a S1 and I've never noticed this. I've never thought that recordings were lower in volume than LiveTV. I do notice some channels are louder than other though, for example Disney Channel is significantly louder than any other channel that we watch regularly.
