Problem with AT&Tivo Upgrade

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an original AT&Tivo. When I got it 3 months ago (factory replacement for my dead Tivo), I purchased a new 120 GB WD drive, did a backup|restore, and the new drive was purring along no problem. Then, started to run out of space (kid's shows seem to take up a lot :) ), so I decided to add another 120GB drive. This is the Maxtor 120 GB from my original Tivo, so I did a complete check to make sure it was in working order. Then, I did pdisk on my original drive to make sure I did the swap partition when I did the upgrade, and it was 127 MB. So, I did an mfsadd and it returned saying I had ~240GB of space. Place the drives back in the Tivo, stuck on "Welcome. Powering up...". Double checked the jumpers, looked like I didn't do the slave quite right, same result. Then, reversed the cable as I had the MB side in the master and the master in the MB, still no joy. I placed the original disk back in and it boots just fine. I tried just putting the original expansion disk in (WD 120GB) to see if maybe the add didn't do anything, and it sticks on "Welcome...".

Any ideas?

You might want to check the post "sd-dvr40; added 120gb 2nd; hangs on powering up" by MegaSnapper located elsewhere in this forum.

Just checked it, I have tried the cable both directions and still no joy.

I also tried another IDE cable, still no joy. I can access them both from my PC (with the jumpers set as in the tivo) on my primary (/dev/hda, /dev/hdb) and the partition tables look ok from pdisk.

Well, the end of the story is I redid the upgrade from my original drive to my 2 new drives and everything is working just fine. My guess is the add of the 2nd drive didn't really work (even though it seemed like it had) so I had to start over from scratch. Lost a few programs, but oh well.
