Hi, I'm new here, new to TiVo, and new to TiVo upgrades. So I don't really know much about all of this. I recently upgraded my Hughes HDVR2 to a 200 GB HD (I left the factory HD in there also). I sealed it all up and turned it on to get... the Welcome screen for about 20 min. I thought, "Well this isn't right." So I am now going to put it all back the way it was. When I checked the "white cable of death" it seemed to be pretty snug; so I don't think that was the problem, then I thought maybe the new HD wasn't snapped in enough; and it wasn't. So I plugged 'er back up and again I got the welcome message for about 6 min (didn't wait the full 20 min as before). So now i'm lost. I am now trying to put it all back the way it was and my problem is I can't seem to remember where the pin went on the factory HD. I am also not sure if it really matters if I move it back or not. So, If somebody could tell me where the pin on the factory HD (which is Maxtor by the way, one jumper, four pairs of pins) goes I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

The A drive was original jumpered on Cable Select, but Master should work too.
I would think the drives were interfering with each other and preventing the TiVo getting to the A drive. That would suggest a problem with cables or jumpers.

when changing jumpers, the BEST way is to go to manufacturers website and get the factory spec diagrams. I have seen the drives mislabeled before. ALso, why not run the 200 as a single drive, not the B drive. THe stock drives are crap, and you have a huge new drive that will run faster, less heat, and less power supply strain than 2 drives. Lba48 hack will give you all that space instead of wasting 63 gigs. YOur only getting 137 gigs out of that drive you know......

greek,
I have a used hdvr2 I purchased and is stuck on welcome powering up screen, I have no response frome face controls or remote, white ribbon cable is secure....anything that I can check or is this unit likely toast?

It's probably a drive failure. Hard to prove without a known-good hard drive, though.

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better, I have a upgrade harddrive on it's way. I'll post results...

the front panel wont respond at that screen. Run the drive through maxtors website for a warranty, they will send another, and keep for a safe spare. The previous guy may have zapped the faceplate, after imaging it if you have front panel problems look for the fix up top, its easy to do. Also, make sure you reseat all the cables, dont know what the last guy did.........
