GSOD - Severe Error

I am stuck
I have a Phillips DSR7000 - DirecTivo Series 2 unit.
Took out original Drive A (40GB) made backup image
Restored backup image to new Drive A (Maxtor 160GB) and Drive B (Maxtor 160GB). followed instructions everything seemed to go as planned then I put drives back in Tivo Unit booted and it came up and I checked the system available space it reported 243 hours (great!)
I then had it working fine watching tv for about 15 minutes then it rebooted and I got the Welcome Screen then "Almost there" then the Green Screen of Death with SEVERE Error.
These two drives are brand new and just opened today. I know they aren't bad. It must be something I did incorrectly can I get some help?
I tried again with original Tivo drive A and
- Drive B - WD 120 GB (brand new)
I used command
mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /mnt/backup.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdb
I got the success message and the newly reported size 140+ hours and I shutdown and put the drives back in the tivo unit and watched tv for about 15 minutes then the reboot and GSOD
I thought doing it the quick way would not restore my Recording, but they are on my list. The whole backup took 15-20 minutes so I know there is now way it backed up 3 full NBA games, 6 movies and 4 simpsons episodes.
any help is appreciated

Follow-up:
I re-did the configuration with just one drive (160GB) and it has been up since last night. So it leads me to a few things:
1. Possible bad Power Splittler
2. Possible bad ide cable
3. I have not gone in to my LIST (which is the last thing I did before both GSOD)
for #3 - When you turn the TiVo on after adding/replacing drives are you supposed to wait until it makes a phone call or ? Also, in the Now Playing List I have 15-20 items that I know for a fact did not get copied (backup file is 300 MB). so how can I clear it?

Follow-up 2:
After READING the Hinsdale-how-to to the end I have to delete the Now Playing list items or do a factory reset if you software version 1.3 or earlier. I am running 3+ but I am going to try the Factory Reset if someone can point me in the right direction.

Back to the GSOD
Yesterday I went through and ran the Facotry Reset on the TiVo and all was working great. I recorded 2 basketball games and movies and had been watching tv since yesterday evening. Today I came in the room around 3:30 and I got the GSOD.
What is going on?

I've also experienced this GSOD error after upgrading my DTiVos with Maxtor 160GB drives. I did the exact same upgrade operation on both of my DTiVos, adding a 160GB drive and making it the primary, leaving the 40GB drive as a secondary drive.
One of my the two systems appears to be working okay after the upgrade, but the second one gives the GSOD screen every time it reboots. It sits there for several minutes (I usually leave it alone so I don't know for sure how long) and it eventually comes back up with everything appearing to be okay. This past December I noticed one time that the power light was off on this suspect system and it appeared to be dead. My TV reported that there was no video signal. I rebooted and it reported the GSOD as usual and eventually came back up. It has spontaneously rebooted at least once more since then (I can tell since I have to redo the 30 second skip code).
So for now I'm living with it. Sure wish I knew what the problem was so I could fix it once and for all.
