TiVo won't play my playlists?

Hi -
I'm a new owner of a Series2, with HMO. Its on my network and can play music off my computer just fine. But when I tried a playlist, TiVo doesn't recognize it. It says "No playable music in this folder", or something to that effect.

Here's my setup - I betcha I'm doing something obviously wrong, but I just can't see it so hopefully someone else can!

I have Computer 1 and Computer 2 and TiVo on my network.
Computer 1 has TiVo Desktop running.
Computer 2 has the music directories.
So, map Computer 2's drive to M: on Computer 1.
Publish M:Music folder via TiVo desktop on computer 1.
TaDa! TiVo can see the music.

Now for playlists ...
I sit down at computer 1, make a playlist with computer 2's music directories.
Save the playlist to computer 2 in a "playlists" directory.
When TiVo looks in the playlists directory, it can't find anything playable in that folder.

I suspect this has something to do with having the music on computer 2 and publishing it through computer 1. So, next thing I try ...

Put TiVo desktop on computer 2 also.
Cool, I wasn't sure if this would work but now computer 1 and 2 are both running the desktop and TiVo can see both.
Now I sit down at computer 2 and make a playlist, saving it to the published folder that I know TiVo can see.

Still no dice! TiVo doesn't recognize the playlist. I'm stumped as to what to try next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ....

p.s. I'm making the playlists with Window's Media Player. That's a supported format, isn't it????

Laura,

You are not doing anything wrong. The problem is that the TiVo Desktop software doesn't recognize the latest Windows Media Player playlist format (that uses the WPL extension). As far as I know, Microsoft introduced this playlist format with their Windows Media Player version 9, and TiVo hasn't updated their software to support it (yet).

The good news is that I have written a plug-in for the TiVo Desktop that recognizes WPL playlists. In addition, it allows you to navigate your music using the same categories as Windows Media Player - by artist, album, genre, static and auto playlists.

Go here for more.

Jem.
