Arrested Development 1-4

I thought it was pretty funny. The tension between George Michael and Maybe is hysterical.

I love the show myself. However, I'd have to say for there to be "tension between" both sides have to be aware of it.
I think George Michael is shooting blanks here...

After that episode I now know I have a new hero, Buster. He has some of the funniest lines, and he is such a great straight man. We all expect David Cross to be funny and he is, but Tony Hale is great.

I think she is aware of it. She plays stupid, just to torture him.

Considering Maybe started it, I think she's aware she has created a monster and doesn't know what to do about it.

"Ladies and gentleman, a magician named Gob."
:D
But what's with the new Marta?

OK, I thought I was seeing things. I was thinking "She's not nearly as hot as she used to be"?

I have to say - being an "Alias" fan, I had heard great things about this show, but had never seen it. We stayed in on New Year's Eve and watched the 4-hour "mini-marathon" by accident. We had ordered pizza and had been flipping through the channels...
My wife and I were hystrerical laughing at the 4 episodes we saw!! Since Alias wasn't on last night, we got a chance to catch a new Arrested Development. I have loved Alias since it came out, but as of last night, Arrested Development got a Season Pass and got nudged above Alias in my Season Pass Manager!!
I figure we usually end up watching Alias live anyway and this way we can have Arrested Development to watch on Monday.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! (But also did a double-take at the "new" Marta! What a scam!!) There is such a shortage of "smart" comedies to choose from.
BTW - who is the narrator supposed to be? Or is he just a narrator?

I *loved* Buster's "bug crawling" reaction when Lucille and Lucille were hugging... Too funny.... "Separate...separate..." :) :)

I think last nights episode was the funniest yet. Everything was so perfect.
I was a bit bewildered by the Marta thing as well, the first one was really pretty!

Patricia Velazquez replaced Leonor Varela. No idea why.
Just noticed a mildly interesting bit of trivia: Both actresses have played ancient Egyptian queens. Patricia Velazquez played Anck Su Namun in the two Mummy movies, and Leonor Varela played the title character in the TV movie Cleopatra.

Just a narrator, AFAIK.
Someone I know initially thought the narrator was supposed to be David Cross's character, which is plausible because David Cross and Ron Howard have somewhat similar voices.

Yeah, I was disappointed w/ that. I guess we're not supposed to have noticed.
My favorite bit was Michael's reaction when stopped by the limo. "Which brother?". :p

Yah, I noticed the new Marta too. Weird. I was familiar with both actresses before this, because of well, I like Spanish women :) They don't look anything alike though.
This show is pretty dang funny, because they don't hit you over the head with anything.
Like Linday's "wine and cheese" functions, and the three pictures they showed.

I assume it had something to do with availability in the first few episdoes vs. the 1-4 episode which may have been filmed after the show was picked up for a full season?

I don't think I could possibly like this show any more.
I love it when announcers call him "Gob" with the hard "g" and "ah" instead of the "j" and "oh". For some reason I think it's hilarious.
Buster and Lucille and Lucille is just the craziest love triangle. Ever. :D
Oh, and I adore the "previews" for the next episode they have at the end. Sometimes they are the funniest part of the show. "I never should have given up animation rights." :D

Wow, I can't believe it but I DIDN'T notice. Either did my wife, or I'm sure she would have said something. I guess I must have been laughing too hard.

It seems to be an omniscient narrator, though, whereas Tobias is clearly the most clueless character on the show (and that's a hard thing to do, given all the rest of the characters!), so it couldn't possibly be him. :D

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't like this show. I mean, it's o.k. if there's nothing else on the box, but this show is too whitebread imo.
I had it set up for a season pass when it first came out, probably because of all the hype, but I've since removed it. I don't think it's consistently funny and I find the narration more than a little annoying. There might be one or two funny lines in a good show, but on a scale from one to Seinfeld, this show is not funny.
Ron Howard is a great director and he's made some awesome movies, but he's no comedian.

Parenthood
I think he has the perfect voice for a comedy voice over. He may not be that great a comedic actor, but he has been involved on some funny movies and TV shows.

Great movie. Whenever I'm in a conversation about efficient movie directing, I use this one as an example. I think it's amazing that Ron Howard fit so many subplots about so many people into those two hours while most directors can't keep one simple plot entertaining given the same amount of time.

Parenthood was a funny movie, that's true.
I guess I just don't like Arrested Development as much as everyone else.

Too whitebread? You gotta be kidding me.....this is the LEAST whitebread of any sitcom since Seinfeld!! Unless I am misreading your definition of whitebread as meaning "vanilla, plain" C'mon, a mothers henpecked son having an affair with his mother's friend, two first cousins wooing each other, dad in prison trying to stay on the right side of Bubba, self absorbed mom. Nothing whitebread about any of this!!

I'm not sure if this was posted before or not but Ron Howard does do the narrative work in arrested Development.

This episode was hilarious, as usual. I couldn't stop from laughing when Tobias came in wearing the leather. The Marta thing threw me, I'm glad you guys explained it here.
Does anyone else think Jason Bateman and Portia de Rossi have quite a bit of chemistry when onscreen together? That sometimes distracts me, since they don't seem like brother and sister. I guess none of them really seem related, come to think of it.
