I just started watching Angel on TNT when they started showing it and am as far as they've gone. I don't know what season it is but Connor has just come back through the portal and it grown up.

I've missed a few shows here and there but my question is:

How do they afford that hotel?

They moved into the hotel early in Season 2. There was a guy who was in a couple of episodes late season 1 / early season 2 who was a Bill Gates-type software exective geek, who had a lot of business expertise. When Angel wanted to buy the hotel, they called him to ask for advice on how to buy it with no money down and he helped them. Later on, Gavin Park at Wolfram & Hart started investigating their lease and implied that they could be evicted at any time.

Just FYI, Bryan... you're in the home stretch of Season 3 right now. IIRC, TNT's afternoon reruns of Angel will cycle back into Season 1 on Friday or Monday.

Also, in regards to the hotel, they stated it was would cost next to nothing because of its history.

I remember that guy and that show, but I figured I just missed an episode in there somewhere where he buys it for them.

What I'd like to know is how Angel was able to renovate a big building like that which was in disrepair after 50 years of neglect.

I know, it's just a show. I should really just relax. :)
