Did we get Punk'd?

January 8, 2004 -- "PUNK'D" fans will be happy to learn that their idol, Ashton Kutcher, was just punk- ing them when he announced the discontinuance of his popular MTV celebrity prank show last month. "Ashton couldn't get any pranks done because people were catching on," our spy said. "So he announced that the show was over and that way he can still punk people." Victims of Kutcher include Justin Timberlake - who famously cried when Kutcher had his house "repossessed" - Beyoncé Knowles, Lara Flynn Boyle and Jessica Alba. A rep for MTV said, "Ashton said he was pulling the plug, so as far as we know, the show is over."

Good idea if he did just fake calling it quits. I can imagine that everyone he knows who he was trying to Punk was beginning to expect it.

So if it is common knowledge that the show is in fact not canceled and Ashton is up to his old tricks; doesn't that mean that celebrities will go about their lives knowing full well that a potential prank is around the corner? -- I don't get it.

Or, just because the show isn't currently running new epsisodes (I'm sure MTV repeats old episodes) there won't be as much buzz until it comes back. Ergo celebrities will be "off guard."

I can't wait until Viva La Bam comes back. That show was the best one out of the bunch in the Sunday Stew. I like it when they translate Don Vito's speech on screen. The way they spell his utterances had me in stiches.

This doesn't surprise me at all, especially since

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
in the last prank of the season finale with Goldberg didn't work. There is no way he is going out like that.

Viva La Bam rules!

Yeah that was a pretty poor prank.

At least they still show the ones they screw up on. I think they are going to release a DVD of Punk'd. Maybe they will have some outtakes and ones they didn't show since the prank went south.

When is Viva supposed to be back? I saw in the preview that they are getting kicked out of their subdivision and they are going out with a bang!

Viva La Bam comes back in March doesn't it?

Maybe Ashton was just kidding about the cancellation. And maybe not.

I imagine his reason's for cancelling was his need to juggle his burgeoning movie career with his two television shows. He's already signed on for 2 more years of That 70's Show so that leaves Punk'd.

The reason for claiming it was nothing but a "Punk" was due to his getting fired, and kicked off the set of, the newest Cameron Crowe movie. Why did he get fired? According to what I read it was due to his being unable to act his way out of a wet blanket.

Hopefully I am wrong. Hopefully the cancellation was only a stunt. Hopefully his new movie, The Butterfly Effect, doesn't suck. The previews for it sure look awesome.

The friends I know who worked on Punked are all either unemployed, or have moved on to other projects, since Ashton announced it was over. The show isn't in production right now, and they think it's cancelled. If the cancellation is truly a punk, it would be a pretty mean prank to pull, since those people aren't getting paid anymore...
